Coronavirus (2021) thread

My stepdaughter tested positive for Coronavirus on Wednesday via lateral flow test. Entered result into track and trace app and was given appointment for PCR test Thursday which was also positive. I've not been contacted by track and trace, nor my stepson who has been shielding for the last 18 months. However my wife was pinged Thursday and told to isolate for 10 days. (We all live in same house)

A farce guaranteed.

I have to deliver a presentation at the office on Tuesday and go to another couple of meetings. With space for around 1,500 staff, I expect to be pinged. The temptation to delete the app is high.
If you get pinged by the NHS Covid app, it is advisory and you are not compelled to self-isolate. Only if you are contacted by NHS Test & Trace are you legally compelled to self-isolate...

Good news in that my two sons didn't return positive PCR tests following school outbreak. But one who was in the class of positive case now isolated till week on Monday. An extra day was added as first kid tested positive Thursday, and the class testing picked up one that attended Friday and tested positive. Surge testing works. However the rapid flow had been unreliable for both the positive PCR tests in this scenario.

It was apparently supposed to be being modified as of tomorrow, however according to someone on here yesterday that’s now been changed and it’s being left as is. Madness.

Left as it is so that when it inevitably causes chaos with staff / families being advised to isolate thus causing resentment and ‘economic damage’ - they have a ready made excuse to bring back restrictions under the guise of saving us from such chaos.

So instead of doing a U turn on 19th, they’ll spin it as reacting to T&T chaos and frame it as an pro-economy move. We shall see.

He’s the only one in that circus who has an ounce of competence.

Johnson is the problem. Sunak would have read the optics from the off, yet Johnson doesn’t believe he should be constrained by regulation, rules or law, domestic or otherwise, and that will cause lasting damage to the UK state.

What’s the betting Sunak follows the self-isolation rules and Johnson doesn’t?

Its very interesting that America seemingly has cracked on with life and it begs the question why can't we and why is everything on the eve of freedom day so bloody negative?
The New York governor earned an emmy award for his daily covid briefings, however last month he got rid of them. Fantastic.
Compare this to our government's approach and obsession with figures.

I'm not suggesting the US has been perfect with their covid response however surely if they want people to feel more confident they should reel back on some of the stats and order the press to do this too?
