boris is a twat but he hasn’t come up with the term Freedom Day.

That is a word invented by the media and stuck.

it’s a shit phrase which divides society (which they seem to like to nowadays) for those who want to say it’s over and get back to normal from Monday and others to use it as an example of reckless term and govt are being reckless too quickly eliminating all restrictions In one go.

Pick a side and FIGHT!!!
True, but in his February pronouncement, he did say ‘one-way road to freedom’ and designated Midsummer day as its terminus, so while the papers subsequently drew the line and coined the phrase, he supplied the dots.

I’m all for science and the vaccine programme. Thousands Of scientists and medics are saying abandoning every measure is reckless. What harm was mask wearing in supermarkets or public transporting until all the adult population had the chance to be double jabbed doing? The Government see “freedom day” as a vote winner and the impact on wider patient care seems an irrelevance.

Btw, I was in the pub yesterday having a great time. I’ve had both jabs now and I have faith in the vaccine. My next door neighbour who has long Covid wasn’t so lucky. The mass circulation of the virus has done for her and hundreds of thousands like her.
I’ll still wear a mask on public transport and in shops, etc, but I think even before the announcement that they won’t be mandatory from tomorrow, many of those who had complied were starting to sack off wearing them and once that happens it’s difficult to pull it back.
With regards to opening up tomorrow, it’s definitely a concern with cases topping 50,000 per day but I can’t help thinking that with so many having had Covid and a good percentage double jabbed, cases can’t keep rising the way they are and I reckon we might not be far off the peak in terms of case numbers. I guessed at 65k-70k daily cases some days back. I’ll be disappointed if we hit 100k

By no means a fan of the Daily Mail, however this piece sums it up to perfection….

No doubt many will now not bother isolating when they get 'pinged'.

Does anyone know about the sensitivity of the track and trace app? With staff returning to offices, if it id a bit of a blunt tool, it could become farcical.

Those questions have increased since it was revealed that the UK regulator refused to formally approve the use of the same Lateral Flow rapid tests for daily testing of school pupils.

the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) told the government this week that it had not authorised the daily use of 30-minute tests due to concerns that they give people false reassurance if they test negative”.
Not buying or selling on how effective the trial is I know first hand the Co workers alongside these people are very sceptical and wasn't happy 2 people in my office were on it just pointing out it hasn't been invented for Boris although seems to have been tweeked as ours allows full freedom theirs is only work related

It was apparently supposed to be being modified as of tomorrow, however according to someone on here yesterday that’s now been changed and it’s being left as is. Madness.

No it didn’t Marvin. The strict isolation facilities and procedures in Wuhan did most of that.

Immunity is the end point, particularly through vaccination, but herd immunity as a strategy has been a disaster for our Country. That’s a fact.
It's always been about immunity. The problem is getting there.

A farce guaranteed.

I have to deliver a presentation at the office on Tuesday and go to another couple of meetings. With space for around 1,500 staff, I expect to be pinged. The temptation to delete the app is high.

Someone understanding the optics of the situation...

Whilst the test and trace pilot is fairly restrictive, allowing only essential government business, I recognise that even the sense that the rules aren’t the same for everyone is wrong.

To that end I’ll be self isolating as normal and not taking part in the pilot.’ @RSunak
