They’ll always be new variants mate, not at lot we can do about it. We were told we would vaccinate our way out of it, now they’re saying that they may not work, I don’t know the answer but we can’t just stay locked up forever.

Who is locked up? Ive had a few days off and Ive been to numerous pubs, every shop I needed, a takeaway and the gym, where I have done both exercise classes with others and weights on my own. And Ive cycled around and walked my dog wherever Ive wanted to go with no distance home restriction. In a couple of hours Im going to work, where I have been in since this all started 18 months ago.
Locked down? Dont think that is an accurate description of anything is it really.

Is freedom day going to matter though? I haven't seen a single supermarket say that it will remove the need for masks for example but when I've been in supermarkets none of them enforce the law around wearing them anyway.

The scientific evidence shows that there is a 1 in 10,000 chance of you catching the virus in public, almost all spread is via family and friends meeting in the home, a place where masks are never worn.

Why don't we just not require masks in public but mandate them in homes? That is what the scientific evidence suggests but of course the lunacy of all of this is that will never happen.

A lot of it is common sense. Some pubs are poorly ventilated. I look through the door and if it looks like "Covid City" I'll give it a miss. Other places, including shops, are fine. I live in a town with a lot of vulnerable elderly people. If a shop looks busy I'll keep my mask on out of courtesy to them.

Bob you were a big advocate against Brexit, especially the economic reasons for Brexit so I'll ask in terms of equivalence against the economy.

Take a look at our travel industry or leisure industry prior to today, do you think that it's good for us to remain restricted as in these places must remain shut?

You may only have to wear a mask but millions are losing their livelihoods from these restrictions.

Brexit has already restricted job opportunities for young people working in resorts in Europe, so, let’s not start shedding tears over the damage the pandemic does when we voluntarily voted to restrict our travel and employments rights.

The Govt has imposed restrictions on people arriving from France, whereas European states are now working under a vaccine passport program to facilitate movement which will benefit trade and leisure etc. Currently, we are absent from such a scheme, yet another Brexit benefit.

On a wider point about travel restrictions during a pandemic, then temporary closing of borders makes sense, be they external or internal borders. That we should be looking at ways to facilitate opening of borders that takes onto account the virus I don’t have an issue. I don’t have any issue with opening up. I do have an issue with saying we are dropping all restrictions, then continue with a self isolation program that contradicts this message. The lack of honesty in messaging, be it Brexit or the pandemic is damaging.

Seems to be an awful lot of judgemental people in here especially regarding masks, if you want to continue wearing one then do so, if you dont then dont.

I personally hate the things so wont be wearing them from now onwards unless visiting somewhere that have specifically requested I still do so but I most certainly wont be judging anyone who still wants to wear a mask at any point, anywhere.

There has been enough of a shitshow for the past 18 months its time to try to find a new normal way of living and get on with it

Been to Sainsbury's this morning to pick up some essentials.

I'd estimate that I saw around 70-80 other people whilst in there.

I saw one person not wearing a mask.

I think maybe the vast majority of the general public aren't as dumb as our current 'leaders' or as selfish as the 'anti-maskers' which is quite reassuring.

My hedonism was in the punk era 70's, what a time to experience that, didn't last more than about 3 years but shook Britain up, the antidote to Thatchers rule.
