Seems to be an awful lot of judgemental people in here especially regarding masks, if you want to continue wearing one then do so, if you dont then dont.

I personally hate the things so wont be wearing them from now onwards unless visiting somewhere that have specifically requested I still do so but I most certainly wont be judging anyone who still wants to wear a mask at any point, anywhere.

There has been enough of a shitshow for the past 18 months its time to try to find a new normal way of living and get on with it

As individuals have the choice of whether to wear a mask or not, I have the choice on how I judge those individuals.

A lot of it is common sense. Some pubs are poorly ventilated. I look through the door and if it looks like "Covid City" I'll give it a miss. Other places, including shops, are fine. I live in a town with a lot of vulnerable elderly people. If a shop looks busy I'll keep my mask on out of courtesy to them.
I wear a mask whenever I'm in an indoor public space but I have no problem with challenging their effectiveness and whether they actually matter in the context of the rules that are in place.

Most people still believe that a mask protects them so they are careful, they wear their mask in public indoors but then they go home and invite their grandparents, family or mates round for a party and it's then that they don't wear masks so it's completely pointless.

The only restrictions that are going to matter with respect to spread are those that contain people away from other people in close contact which is in the home, nothing else matters.

How else have cases rapidly risen to 50,000+ per day, over 40% per week whilst a public mask mandate is still in place? As you say it's common sense and actually the only restriction on our freedoms that matters is our ability to meet with our families, that's the most damaging reality of this virus that no-one will mention.

I will be taking more precautions not less now. We're in an 'exit-wave'. I am watching the daily infection rate and the prevalence figures. When they start to fall, that will be my moment to relax.

But we're all rational people. If I didn't visit my elderly parents regularly or if I w.as 20, I'd probably feel very different. That's why it's not wise to judge

Been to Sainsbury's this morning to pick up some essentials.

I'd estimate that I saw around 70-80 other people whilst in there.

I saw one person not wearing a mask.

I think maybe the vast majority of the general public aren't as dumb as our current 'leaders' or as selfish as the 'anti-maskers' which is quite reassuring.
Purely anecdotal but when I was in our local Aldi just over a week ago I observed a total of 14 people around the till area not wearing masks. That was out of about 40 people so a pretty high percentage. It's about the worst example of non-compliance I've seen since mask wearing in supermarkets became a thing and I do wonder that with today's relaxation of regs whether things will actually be that much worse. I'm not sure they will because maybe most of those who were wanting to sack their masks off have already done that so there won't actually be much difference and the vast majority still wearing them yesterday will still wear them today

I agree. To be fair for young people the risk of dying after taking illegal drugs is much higher than that from Covid (about 4000 drug deaths a year in the last stats I can find on Google for 2019). The level of drug abuse has soared during lockdown. Undoubtedly some young people will get long Covid and a very small number will end up dying from it but context is everything.
Hopefully I’m not missing you point, but the people out clubbing will be doing the type of drugs that don’t add much to the quota of drug deaths in a year.. Not looked for official stats but that’s my take on it .

Went to the equivalent in the Netherlands this morning, with similar numbers shopping, and saw two people wearing face masks. I don’t think people are necessarily different, but the message delivered from those in authority sets the tone.

It isn't going to matter, everytime I've been shopping since the shops have been reopened I've seen multiple people not wearing masks. The risk profile for this though is tiny unless they sneeze in your face which is pretty unlikely.

Like I said earlier, the irony of all of this is we are obsessed with mask wearing in public but how many of these people had a BBQ in close contact with their mates this weekend (which has been legal since May)? I'm sure they all wore masks then didn't they....?

Cut out the personal abuse and arguments, please. If you have to argue with another poster, and you can't (for some unknown reason) put them on ignore, take the argument to pms.

I reckon similar to vaccine uptake where the least affluent areas have the lowest uptake, the more affluent areas will be more likely to keep wearing masks whereas if you shop in the least affluent you are less likely to come across mask wearers. Why this is I have no clue?
