I’m just glad it’s returning. The thought of having an extended period without taste and smell was depressing.
Ye know what you mean, I started shitting it when it wasn't coming back. You don't appreciate how much you use it till it's gone. Feel sorry for people that go their whole life like that. Anyway glad your on the mend. Just in time to savour the delights of a pint of piss at the match ;)

My taste and smell has started to return, that’s weird in itself as it doesn’t just come back instantly, you have various smells and tastes that work and some that don’t. This morning’s coffee tastes strange but is nearly normal, whereas I had chicken last night and could taste that, but still couldn’t taste wine or beer.

my sis in law is nearly a year in and still hasn’t got hers back. Can taste and smell really strong things but that’s about it.

ZOE DATA (TODAY)

Real data is in less supply over the weekends as you will recall.

No Wales data at all today.

No hospital data or deaths from England all weekend.

So here is Zoe's guesstimate!

PREDICTED DAILY CASES - DOWN ON ZOE TOO NOW!

From 63, 159 to 62, 274 - though way over the actual numbers on Gov UK in past 3 or 4 days.

ONGOING SYPTOMATIC CASES - UP ON ZOE

From 734, 626 to 750, 734 - a rise of 16, 108 TODAY V 23, 738 yesterday and 23, 222 the day before

NB:- THIS IS THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF SYMPTOMATIC CASES IN THE UK ZOE HAS EVER DETECTED AS ACTIVE NOW - THREE QUARTERS OF A MILLION OUT OF 67 MILLION PEOPLE IS MORE THAN 1% OF THE POPULATION HAS COVID RIGHT NOW

Highest watch zones.

1st LONDON down slightly from 1248/1496 TO 1248/1494

2nd NE & YORKS down from 1054/1459 TO 1039 / 1434

3rd NORTHERN IRELAND down from 554 / 1510 TO 506 / 1826

4th NORTH WEST down from from 915 / 1192 TO 907 /1179

And Scotland down from 372 / 613 TO 352 / 587

Zoe also shows Greater Manchester as worse than most of the NW right now.

Stockport having improved but Tameside become the worst regions.

SCOTLAND DATA

MORE GOOD NEWS

11 Deaths - was 4 last week - Obviously this is NOT good BUT deaths lag cases by couple of weeks recall

6.1% positivity - was 8.6% last week - still falling well suggests fewer tests is not the main cause of this fall

478 patients - down 24 on yesterday - was 517 last week - This continuing drop is very good news

60 ventilated icu - up 3 on yesterday - was 49 last week - less good news but this also lags cases like deaths

Here are the Scotland numbers on Saturday over the past 8 weeks: (5 Jun to 24 Jul)

THE COURSE OF THIS WAVE HERE OVER PAST 2 MONTHS

THIS IS A VISUAL ILLUSTRATION OF THE LAG BETWEEN CASES/PATIENTS/ICU & DEATHS

CASES 860 - 1030 - 1209 - 2836 - 3108 - 2190 - 2317 - 1307

POSITIVITY 3.9% - 4.1% - 4.5% - 8.9% - 9.6% - 9.0% - 8.6% - 6.1%

PATIENTS 111 - 129 - 145 - 197 - 306 -436 - 517 - 478

ICU/VENT 8 - 14 - 10 - 18 - 25 - 42 - 49 - 60

DEATHS 1 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 3 - 7 - 4 - 11

As you see positivity and cases fell first, then patients most recent of all.

The other two still going up but it seems reasonable to think they will fall in the next week or so too.

Because they follow directly on with lag from the measures before that have already fallen.

NORTHERN IRELAND DATA

All we get on weekends

1 death - was 2 last week

1520 cases - was 1402 last week

No Wales data today (we get Fridays on Sunday and today & tomorrow on Monday as one)

And we do not get England hospital death data today or tomorrow until Monday when we get all three days at once.

Though tonight's all settings deaths will be a good pointer and include this number so no idea why they cannot be bothered to release it like they used to do and still do Mon to Fri anyway as it is obviously out there.

Natural selection would actually be to just get on with life, without vaccines and lockdowns and for the fittest to survive - but I’m sure you already knew that.

Not really, survival of the fittest most also include intelligence, basic common sense or even just an appreciation of the odds. If people are shooting at you, you take cover, you take basic precautionary steps not to get shot. You don’t wander around declaring that bullets are a hoax and the odds of getting shot are too small to worry about.

My sympathies are for people in countries where vaccine rollout is poor, or non-existent. I have compassion for people who want to get vaccines to protect themselves and their families but can’t get them. I have little sympathy for people in first world countries who have access to free vaccines and refuse to take them.

I get hesitancy, I can’t say I was thrilled to bits to have a vaccine, but it was better than the alternative and hopefully a way out of this shit show. In short, I’m done with stupid.
