Seen SAGEs latest paper saying covid realistically could kill 1 in 3. Whats BLUEMATTS thoughts on this?
I saw that in the Daily Mail and it's their usual hysterical bollocks. If you read down to the bottom it also says that it is unlikely to happen. The report is based on what could happen further in the future.
The woman quoted, Dr Phillipa Whitford, is a former surgeon now turned SNP MP who has no qualifications in immunology. It is just the usual shite we have constantly seen in the mainstream media, especially the Daily Mail. Just politically-motivated garbage.

Thanks for posting this. Of course the Daily Mail has been highly selective in its hysterical coverage. It doesn't clarify that this is long-term prediction looking well into the future and the report doesn't even include any of the extensive list of actions which we can do to prevent and mitigate more lethal mutations emerging.
When this crisis is over there should be an independent inquiry into how the UK media totally failed to report the pandemic in an honest, accurate, or balanced way. The British press has covered Covid about as accurately as they have covered City's FFP saga. Totally biased and politically motivated. We deserve better in this country.

Unfortunately as well as the political angle the MSM in this country are entirely obsessed with clickbait and how to maximise income from it and they leave no stone unturned in pursuing that objective.

North West down just 62 to 3311.

But Greater Manchester actually UP 71 on yesterday to 1402.

Small numbers so no big damage.

Mostly driven by Manchester up 65 on its own and also up on last week.

And Salford - down on the day a little but up 14 week to week

Trafford also up 36 today (though down week to week) and also Stockport not so good either up 20 but down - all be it just by 6 - week to week.

The rest of GM had a better day mostly down with 3 more under 100 - including Bolton now six successive days in two figures though they have been flat in the 80s and 90s. Nobody has really dropped to very low numbers in GM as yet.

Large sections of the media have contributed to the fake news problem which has caused so much division. Most journalists seem incapable of reporting something in a simple balanced way. Everything comes with a political bias and so many politicians are revelling in that bias. The Guardian and the Daily Mail are just as bad as each other at different ends of the political spectrum. No wonder people are abandoning the traditional media in their millions. The problem is that the extremists are filling the vacuum.

Trains were crammed like sardines pouring into Manchester from Blackburn,Darwen and Bolton earlier, maybe 10% wearing masks.....

Cases across the regions:

Change in last 24 hrs V seven days ago

SOUTH

East DOWN 388 to 2074 V 2816

London DOWN 67 to 3686 V 4557

London still the highest region in England going solo.

South East DOWN 204 to 3214 V 3451 - Fell below the North West - just.

South West DOWN 451 to 2526 V 2626 - Biggest fall today.

MOST BIG FALLS LATELY HAVE BEEN IN THE SOUTH

MIDLANDS

East DOWN 318 to 2212 V 2556

West DOWN 217 to 2203 V 3424

COMBINING THESE TWO INTO ONE AS THE NHS DOES TOTALS 4415 - STILL THE LARGEST REGION

NORTH

North East DOWN 189 to 1281 V 1830

Yorkshire DOWN 390 to 2869 V 3383

NE & YORKSHIRE as Zoe and the NHS combines these two for the hospital data and this is now the third biggest area with 4150 cases. Ahead of London. But behind the Midlands.

AND

NORTH WEST DOWN 62 to 3311 V 3615

Past weeks NW numbers are 3615 - 3464 - 3281 - 2683 - 2999 - 3588 - 3373 - 3311

Equivalent NW numbers a week earlier 7424 - 6962 - 5176 - 5058 - 5322 - 5600 - 4172 - 3615

Look at the week to weeks above:-

DOWN 3809 - DOWN 3498 - DOWN 1895 - DOWN 2375 - DOWN 2323 - DOWN 2012 - DOWN 769 - DOWN 304

The week to week fall has been steadily decreasing. From a fall to a stall.

GM numbers in past week 1618 - 1410 - 1330 - 1088 - 1251 - 1381 - 1331 - 1402

Like the NW a suggestion of flattening off in recent days

Total in GM from the NW cases Total 42.6 % was 39.5% yesterday and 44.8% a week ago.

Full GM details

Total cases 1402 - UP 71 on Yesterday - The whole NW was DOWN by 62

So a tad under par obviously,

Wk to wk DOWN 220 when the NW is DOWN by 304

So over the expected fall here - which on balance means a good day as wk to wk matters most.

BOROUGH / CASES TODAY / V YESTERDAY / V LAST WEEK

BOLTON 87/ DOWN 9 / DOWN 42

BURY 87 / UP 1 / DOWN 7

MANCHESTER 355 / UP 65 / UP 55

OLDHAM 112 / UP 10 / DOWN 47

ROCHDALE 100 / DOWN 3 / DOWN 42

SALFORD 187 / DOWN 8 / UP 14

STOCKPORT 142 / UP 20 / DOWN 6

TAMESIDE 83 / DOWN 24 / DOWN 47

TRAFFORD 126 / UP 36 / DOWN 32

WIGAN 123 / DOWN 17 / DOWN 62

Three boroughs sub 100 and Rochdale ON 100.

More modest week to week falls as now as expected. You cannot fall 100 every week once down to just over 100 self evidently. So this is just how it works.

Manchester had the worst day today. Though nobody a really bad or really good one. Bolton the pick.

Most will see weekly Pop Score falls - which is the number that matters most to chart the progress of the pandemic in GM.
