Really hope this herd immunity strategy works.

GM AND NORTH WEST SUMMARY

A good day for GM and not that bad for the North West

NW Cases up just 42 to 5100 - However, the GM cases are UP by 110.

That is obviously not good to rise today by triple the whole region. But small numbrs = small harm.

AND week to week is more important for trends and this is MUCH better

North West is DOWN week to week 227 from 5327

BUT GM falls week to week by 258 to 1937 today

So GM falls by more than the entire region more than making up for the daily rise.

The key reason for these results is that the high scoring boroughs are coming down and many of the other boroughs are now rising.

So the day to day rises by them are high but the big falls from the already high scoring boroughs week to week outweigh the more modest week to week rises by the other boroughs not at very high levels.

NB THOUGH - this is a short term one off thing coming down from huge scores as these big falls will only happen once or twice and if others are going up they will soon mean GM numbers will go up too.

Manchester was again the biggest week to week riser with its highest total in weeks and top today on 285.

Trafford was second and up on yesterday at 263 which is down a big 138 on last week's sky high 401. Hence the big GM weekly fall.

Stockport - though - had a much better day below both the above - down 33 to 260 which is down week to week 85. It also gained anoher 23 Pop Score points on Trafford when it looked yesterday like Trafford woud be doing this.

Most other boroughs up a bit on both - with Tameside on 200 and Wigan and Salford both in the 190s

The lowest score was 103 in Bury.

It would appear that as a nation we're ok with an average of 120 Covid related deaths per day. Based on figures I saw for July, about 2/3 of those deaths will be caused by Covid and 1/3 will be where Covid was present with the underlying cause something else, so Covid is actually killing about 80 per day which is about 6% of all deaths. It would seem that daily increases in vaccine coverage are no longer in the more vulnerable groups and the figures for fully vaccinated deaths are averaging out at just a handful per day so it's likely to be mostly the older anti-vaxxers and those influenced by them that are dying now.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DATA SUMMARY

Sadly the NW is now starting to have problems here too.

It was the only one of the four big regions where patients ROSE today.

Worse still it was UP by the most day to day in the region in weeks,

From 757 yesterday to 827 today. A near 10% rise on the day.

And the NW ventilator numbers rose again too - over the last 9 days despite a lot of deaths in hospital at least some of which will have been on these the number has gone UP from 72 to 98 today.

In that same period London has fallen by 30, Midlands stayed flat and NE & Yorkshire fallen by 2.

The North West is the real problem area now.

Without it numbers would be going down.

In fact even as it was Ventilators stayed at 657 and patients rose only by 33 to 5246.

So if NW was tracking as all the other regions are both would be down today.

NW also had its first over 100 admissions on the day (102) 48 hours ago - when patients only rose by 20. So we will have to wait 48 hours to see how many were admitted today to create that big jump in patients.

Looking a bit tricky in the NW right now as the media are VERY belatedly realising.
