Sixth day of isolation for my daughter. She'd been doing do well but last night she just broke down in tears. She's only ten, I'm worried that the isolation may now be more damaging to her longer term than covid. Completely symptom free too.. this is hard for her and as a parent.

Over 50k cases a day, rumours of potential further steps needed, Cornwall hospital declaring a major emergency as it just can't cope... And yet my boss is insisting that we all meet up in a couple of weeks in person for a two day gathering, around 50 people in one smallish conference room, beers afterwards, be there or be black listed.

I get the balance to return to normality is needed, but pretty disgusted that my employer has pretty much forced this on employees with varying levels of comfort and different personal circumstances.

if you have elderly relatives who have yet to have had their boosters take lateral flow tests before you visit.

Tell your Boss to fuckoff politely.

Interesting that I read there are 20 European countries in worse positions than Sweden at the moment, who barely had any restrictions throughout. Natural immunity with the vaccines making them fare better?
There are plenty of reasons for this. Really, it would be a guess as to why they're faring better than 20 countries in Europe right now. I'll give it a go though.

Sweden is the 46th most densely populated country in Europe (out of 49)To put it in perspective, the population density in the UK is 10x higher (which is an obvious aid for transmission of COVID).

Sweden has the 12th best health service out of 38 European countries Better than the UK's NHS.

Sweden has the 12th best vaccination rate in Europe

Sweden isn't an international travel hub (like London, Paris, Istanbul etc). It's busiest airport is the 28th busiest in Europe (behind Manchester, Stanstead, Gatwick & Heathrow).

Without getting into policies and restrictions and so on. I think it's fair to say Sweden is probably the perfect type of country to weather a storm like COVID. You could argue that based on all of the above, they're actually doing worse than they should right now.

And as Ive pointed out in the past, when you compare Stockholm to London as its the closes density comparison we have, there death rates per million were something like 5x higher than ours.

they are also doing a lot lower levels of testing right now.

that being said. back in Nov/Dec last year, there cases per million were WAY higher than ours so there may well be something in the data to suggest natural immunity + vaccines have longer effect, Sweden have more of there population vaccinated than the UK too.
