However, the hospital data in England is better again today. Though cases take time to translate into patients remember so todays rise would not appear- if it does - until next week.

England patients down third day running (though by less today - just 76 - not over 200 as on past two days) to 6336. Ventilators also down to 779 by 13.

Full details on the data thread later.
Exactly!

CASES are one thing, but the whole point of vaccination isn’t to promise no-one will ever get COVID post-vaccination, but that any CASES do not result in HOSPITALIZATIONS and DEATH.

Breakthrough cases, and unvaccinated people getting COVID, will continue add to CASES, but reducing both the level of hospitalization and severity of symptoms in those that do end up stricken is very important.

In short, the NHS WAS saved, and tens of thousands of people have had their lives saved by the vaccines.

I hope people will not be distracted by cases, especially those amongst the vaccinated, as furtherance of their anti-vax cause.

Not really they were 4 months behind us vaccination wise though they didn't max the antibody levels by waiting 8 weeks between jabs, they only waited 3 weeks.
First vaccination was administered on January 26th 2021, and the time between vaccinations fluctuated. In late July, it was brought in from 5 weeks to 25 days.

Of course you can't, so why were you saying we should impose mask mandates and other restrictions to be more like those countries?

I doubt the UK in on the brink of a surge. It tends to go up for a while then down for a while.

And of course, I hope all unvaccinated see sense.
Mask wearing is scientifically proven to reduce the spread of COVID (and other colds & flu).

Surely that is reason enough, no?

RE a UK surge, there's hope that we might stay at the same levels throughout winter. But I'd argue that's incredibly optimistic.

Masks stop over 50% of cases and are frankly a very minor thing for the vast majority of people.

reduce cases and you reduce hospitalisations and reduce deaths, you also reduce the number of people getting long covid.

while we may not get the big spoke like other countries because of the way we handled this, masks are Big wins with an easy fix.
