Coronavirus (2021) thread

I am 48. Good to see I have not given others the impression I am an oldie.

I currently have Bell's Palsy. Not sure what caused it. Looking at possible causes it is most likely either Covid (my sense of smell and taste were not great for a week or so before my face started to resemble Quasimodo's) or my immune system was in overdrive (had the flu jab two weeks earlier and I take high dose Vit D and Zinc, and had both Covid jabs).

Looking at the Lancet, a report recommends considering not taking mRNA vaccines if you have had Bell's Palsy as the risk of getting it again following an mRNA vaccination is three times more likely. I then looked at the NHS website and it said some people can have three jabs of the same vaccine if it is considered the best option for that person.

I would think vaccination centres will have all three vaccinations (AZ, Pfizer and Moderna). No idea how I can ensure I get AZ or avoid a long winded discussion at the vaccination centre and then walking out with no jab. Would ask my doc but it takes three weeks to get a telephone appointment.
Could you ring 119 and see what they suggest?

I think it depends on your age, isn't the AZ vaccine still banned in the under 40's?

I'm under 40 and had the AZ vaccine before they changed the advice but I'll not be allowed AZ again even though I'd still prefer it.

Otherwise though I think you get what you're given.
I would have taken either main vaccine for my booster but some scientists reckon a combination of vaccines gives greater protection, especially with the spike protein changing a fair bit. Having the 2 AZ and the Pfizer booster probably gives greater protection than 3 AZ jabs.

Had my booster at the weekend.

The nurse went through side effects etc, explained why Pfizer rather then AZ then said that if I wanted AZ they could make arrangements. The impression I got was that those arrangements would be at another time and place, but that was my assumption rather than something they explicitly said.

Good luck.

They are on basically the same level as us. we're on 67.8 they are 67.7.

How France overtook us I'll never know. I guess the threat to not being allowed into Cafe's really worked.
Germany has a population count of 84m and have issued as at 25th November, 143.7 doses per 100 people.

The UK has a population count of 68m and as at 25th November had issued 166.36 doses per 100 people.

Nothing like anywhere near us.

Check the table below.

Here's all the measures for vaccination for the two countries.

Double jabbed is almost exactly the same, on other measures UK ahead.
