Coronavirus (2021) thread

Just seems to be relentless bad news this last 20 months or so.

Got to say, every single time I think we can see an end in sight, or at least a half acceptable state, it comes back again one way or another.

Right now it's like a bad dream, almost a doppleganger for last year, new variant popping up and cases looking likely to spike up towards Christmas.

At least thanks to vaccines we're way down on deaths. Currently 3x as many cases, about 1/4 of the death toll compared to this time last year.

Greater Manchester cases are really accelerating . Zoe was spot on today predicting that. Both Manchester and Stockport on their own each have more than 100 extra cases today above what they had last week. Since late last week numbers have really ramped upward in the ten boroughs.

Stocks and shares shooting up this week and so is oil.

Does somebody know something about this varient that we don't?

They have never promised to either.

That key fact is forgotten, constantly.

I didn't say they did, the message I replied to said that it was hoped the UK higher vaccination rate would slow the growth. They certainly made out at the start it would reduce transmission, I'm dubious whether this is the case at all.

No doubting they stop you getting seriously ill by the way.

The news on booster effectiveness + antivirals + Omicron apparant severity I think.
If we can get boosters in arms and antivirals to those who are ill we will be in a good place. (Though that's a big if because the NHS is like an oil tanker when it changes direction. An agile operation it is not.)

Lets keep those Christmas Markets open though!

Maybe for the sake of your own mental health you should stop obsessing over it then.

You seem to wallow in this thread all day, every day. I’ve never seen you post one thing anywhere else on the forum. I’m not trying to start an argument or have a go btw - genuinely you’ll probably benefit from giving it a rest for a bit.

It’s not about wallowing. Some people can take bad news better than others.

Statisticians are able to process data without mental health deterioration.

Just because some people can’t handle being told potential bad news, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be said.

Some people feel more in control just by knowing the facts as opposed to what we are told are the facts.

That is how it is for me.

Anyhow right now all I care about is a meaningless match. Where people will be qouting endless meaningless statistics that everyone will probably like.

I don’t disagree but for everyone it’s about striking a balance I think.

Yes some information is needed but if you’re feeling overwhelmed by bad news, spending all day on an Internet forum digging up more bad news is a rabbit hole you don’t want to go down.

The back pages of this thread are littered with people who did this and went mad.

I’ve found myself spending a bit too much time thinking about covid throughout this thing and it had a negative impact on my mental health. Hence now I only dip in and out of things like this thread and just try and crack on and live my life.

Anyway, there’s a match on. Up the blues.
