My mate who lives around Astley caught covid again last weekend boozing around town and he has just had a further NHS text notification saying that he may have the Omicron variant with a list of instructions what to do. He's 40 and in good shape, first time round when he got covid last October he had an ambulance called out for him and said it was the worse thing he had experienced, this time round he says it's just like a mild cold (he's double vaxxed no booster yet)

Great news

So why can't people who don't have any symptoms not just carry on their lives and just take daily tests?
You can still spread it to others even if you don't have symptoms. The tests aren't great either. My brother had COVID and 4 of his 5 LFT's were negative even after testing positive on the PCR.

It comes down to whether we're bothered about protecting the vulnerable or not. If we are, then it makes sense to isolate if someone in your house has covid. If we're not, then everyone should crack on.

Who'll think they have nothing more that the winter flu. Even the CDC in the USA have said that Omicron is mild

Sorry but no they aren't saying it any official capacity, some of our headlines are making it seem that they are saying that tho.

the head of the CDC said data is very limited ( 40 cases they looked at ) but what they have seen is mostly mild. the Caveat being limited data.

Dont get me wrong, there are lots of reports of positives here and long may they continue ( the Norway outbreak looks very positive ), Data out of South Aftica but 40 cases isn't enough to make a judgement call on so caution is the better option for now.

we'll know one way or another soon enough. For me hotspitalisations in South Africa this week are going to be the best signal as we are 1 week after the big spike started. So far looking good but there are a lot of data bias's over there ( average age being 27 being a big one ).

Glad your mate feels okay.

Even with reduced 'antibody escape' the fact he's had it before will surely help at least a bit.
