5018 cases in Scotland today (it was 2432 last week and 3196 yesterday). They do say the labs have been asked to speed up returns as they fight to keep tabs on Omicron so today is up a bit partly because of that. But positivity rose from 7.6% last week to 9.3% today so more tests is not the whole story.

Patients are still falling in Scotland despite these high cases though. 573 today v 652 last week. Fewer on ventilators than last Friday too. 40 v 46.

Scotland is thought to have quite a lot of Omicron.

A Cobra meeting is underway this afternoon on all this.

My mate who lives around Astley caught covid again last weekend boozing around town and he has just had a further NHS text notification saying that he may have the Omicron variant with a list of instructions what to do. He's 40 and in good shape, first time round when he got covid last October he had an ambulance called out for him and said it was the worse thing he had experienced, this time round he says it's just like a mild cold (he's double vaxxed no booster yet)
What do you know, the jabs work!

Jimmy Krankie already changing the rules. ANY close contact of a positive case now has to isolate for 10 days, regardless of testing negative or being vaccinated. Seems like all those people saying what’s the point of being vaccinated (especially the under 50’s) might have had a point, which can’t be the message to be pushing surely?

She is about to put us into lockdown and is only awaiting the funding from central government to do so.

The Northern Ireland cases were down a bit today but weekly total flat at just over 12,100. Out of them today the over 80s are just 84 and the over 60s just 729 versus 4879 under 20 and 8249 under 40.

Percentage wise 6% over 60 and 68% under 40.

THIS is why cases are high but hospital numbers and deaths are not tracking with them. If Omicron is less severe that is even better news. But this trend is occurring under Delta so even if it is no worse than now the boosters are clearly doing the job intended.

Why are the media not posting these numbers and saying this instead of chasing gloom and doom all the time?
