I just can’t see how the U.K. or indeed any country will be able to operate by the start of next week. If people need to isolate for ten days after testing positive, and it’s so transmissible, then transport, retail, education, heavens everything, will just have to close down for a fortnight.

exactly . If it’s doubling every couple of days then everything will be closed. Schools , hospitals , police everything .

lockdown restrictions in January won’t be needed .

It’ll be fine as long as the government don’t announce it as a lockdown.

I'm 34 and got my booster tomorrow.

Feeling nervous now about having it done ffs. Especially as I already have a phobia of needles and massive anxiety around anything medical.

I had a panic attack in the waiting room when I had my first jab.
For you and all others who get panic attacks use Box Breathing, it really does work. I have had heart arrhythmia (similar to Sergio) since 1990 (was 31 at the time). The irregular heartbeat causes me to get panic attacks to this day even though I take Atenolol to regulate my heartbeat.

What I don't quite understand is the difference in the opinion of the likes of Jenny Harris stating things such "probably the most significant threat [to public health] since the start of the pandemic". What does this mean ? Does she think it is going to kill more people than the first two waves, because that's what that statement could easily be interpreted as?

Compare that stance to the likes of experts from South Africa who are what 4 weeks?? further down the line with this variant than the rest of the world? Such as Dr Angelique Coetzee who have repeatedly stated that early indications are that the variant results in very mild illness? This is from first hand experience of them treating patients, not stats and models.

They just seem to be poles apart in their view of the severity of Omicron.
Not gonna lie, I’m preferring the news out from SA to the U.K. at the moment.

You don't have to be double or triple jabbed to get into football matches and gigs - a negative LFT will do.

I do feel though with Omicron being far more transmissable that it should be a negative LFT for all and not just either/or
I don’t necessarily disagree about LFT’s in theory but, for them to be effective, you’d need to do them when you turned up at the event/restaurant/pub. Imagine doing a pub crawl and doing 8 LFT’s!

My main point though was that, having been tripled jabbed, I can still pass this virus on. If the point of the ’pass’ is to not spread it, vaccination status is pointless. Also, I can’t see why a lateral flow test would not do for NHS and care workers rather than mandatory vaccines.

To my mind, it’s not worth getting angry about. We can’t change it, so it just seems wasted energy to me.

I’m sorry it upsets/angers you. Truly.

Wearing a mask is inconvenient and I have to wear contact lenses on days that I need to wear one for prolonged periods of time.

However, the actual wearing of a mask shows to me that the other person cares about what’s going on and the health of others, not just themselves.

Agreed and despite my posts, I’m not a angry pal, I do as I’m told, do my civic duty to protect myself and others but just feel we are now going down roads that will be never ending for a tiny vocal minority and it’s that situation that worries me.

As I pointed out yesterday, it’s reckoned that 50% of adults (20-40) in South Africa could have it at the one time, but because they don’t have the same level of restrictions in place, or testing, the country can still function. I’ve yet to hear the U.K. Government asked what it will do in that eventuality, though I suspect that at that point it will downgrade Omicron’s severity and encourage everyone back to work. Best enjoy the hibernation when it comes, I say. :-)
