Really interesting.

And not the first of these type of reports. @mugecevik findings were similar. Preliminary studies but the fact both are pointing in the same direction is really positive and hopefully significant once more data is in and further studies are done. If I've summarised it correctly as a layperson it seems that where Wuhan virus, Delta and the rest we've had attacked the lungs where Omicron *might* be less severe there and attack the bronchus leading to usually milder infections.

Thinking back to what Marcus said about Cancer deaths:

Twenty years ago, half the age I am now, with other parents, and in general, it was common for us to smoke. Even around the kids. We'd usually open a window or two, or move to another room.

But I've noticed that all the young parents around me - go and stand outside in the rain to smoke. Disappointing that people are still hooked on tobacco. But good for them keeping it out of the kids lungs!

Surely, tho, it follows on from the ban on smoking in pubs and cafes.

Behaviour changes over time, and sometimes that's for the best. Nowt to be scared of. You'll always be loved to fuck by your own lot.

Serious question, christmas get together for 1 day, approx ages 1 over 85, 5 over 50, & 2 over 20s all fully jabbed up appart from the 2 over 20s with 2 jabs,
Safe for everyone or not? (not taking into account my sister in laws cooking)

Assuming you’re vaccinated etc you’d be mental to cancel a family gathering like that.

You could all be triple jabbed and it wouldn’t be “safe”.
Make sure you all take tests before.

Hospitality in Ireland is to have an 8pm curfew imposed on it from Monday for a period of 30 days, which will be kept under review. An advisory Committee had recommended a 5pm curfew.

RTE news : Hospitality to close at 8pm from Monday under measures

Good on the Irish because it quite clear, shutting bars at 8pm will defeat covid.

FWIW, I think it's window dressing. I can't see how closing restaurants and pubs a few hours early will curb (not "defeat", to use your word) the spread of the virus. But I suppose they have to be seen to be doing something. The advisory committee recommended a 5pm curfew, but apparently the back benchers were dead set against it.
