Yup. I'm still wondering how it didn't pay for itself to send every household a £1 thermometer and a £1 pack of masks, right at the start. Or even today. People are wearing some nasty face coverings out and about. I know I should have replaced mine a month ago but I can't really afford another £10 right now.
Once you take it off it’s like a chocolate fire guard useless, I know people who have had the same one since last March ffs

Seriously, how do you expect them to know what the landscape will be in the future months? Expecting firm dates will leave you disappointed
There are models. They absolutely have a great idea that we'll be getting back to normal in late spring - at least for the summer. They want to do it earlier because Conservatism, but it's unlikely.

They could, and IMO, should say, if we can meet condition x, this is when y unlocks. That would focus people's minds, in my opinion.

This is what happened in the first lockdown. Then it got thrown out. TBH, the temptation to massage numbers makes it almost meaningless.

And honestly, Boris doesn't like the idea of setting out the future because he wants to react to the landscape and make decisions as late as possible.

He's not the only one, I reckon. Many leaders making this same choice. I think they are outrageous bastards, letting people get their hopes up and then see them dashed, letting the crazy sorts of stories that sell papers set the narrative, letting people believe what they want, and seeing everyone disagree on the basics, and believe something different about the reality now and the future prospects.

It's not that hard. There is a limited range of possibilities that are likely to transpire. We can say what is likely in each case, and make the point that the unexpected can always happen, and we would have to think again if that was the case.

The total UK deaths with out of hospital England ones to come is 945.

That is exactly the same as it was on Tuesday and compares with 1185 yesterday (that had a big weekend AND out of hospital add on).

Last Thursday it was 1018 - so it is down week to week for the first time in some while.

We will see if it is just a blip or a genuine start of the plateau. Given that of the 4 nations England and Wales are down week to week but Scotland and N Ireland both up.

Certainly sounds like they are pushing expectations for things getting back to normal to Easter time and beyond from some of the statements made today. Glasto being cancelled isn’t great news for the rest of the hospitality and summer festival workers. I can’t see holidays abroad restarting anytime soon.
If we can live as close to a 'normal' life as possible but without the international travel, by Easter time, I'd be absolutely over the moon with that. Far more excited at the prospect of visiting folks properly, going to restaurants and pubs, football matches, domestic travel throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK than anything else. I usually try to get an international holiday every year if I can, but would gladly live without it for the next 5 years if everything else was pretty much up and running as per some Oceanic countries and elsewhere at the minute.

Im not going to disagree, but if the Government were to give a road map to lifting restrictions, do you honestly believe people wouldn't moan if they had to scrap it for a genuine concern because, I don't.

That's the real frustrating thing, along with unpredictable weather. Went away up north of Scotland for 5 days in September, wasn't far off spending what I would on a 10 or 11 night all inclusive some place. I'd be delighted to make do with it for a few years if necessary though, just mean planning and budgeting accordingly I suppose.
