Blackburn and Darwen became the first place in England to get a Pop Score above 10,000 joining Merthyr Tydfil in Wales who got there a few days ago.

Blackburn used to be neck and neck with Oldham in late Autumn but today had more than double the Pop rise for Oldham as it has for ages and at 10, 060 is now nearly 2000 ahead of Oldham. Showing how Oldham turned it round and Blackburn are struggling still. Though their cases are half what they were just after Christmas so they are falling like the rest of the NW.

This 10,000 pop score means their minimum number who have had Covid is 10% of the population. Ironically the exact same percentage who by the end of this weekend will have had the vaccine in England.

People want life filtered for them. One reason we've not moved forward much in the last 20 years. Generations before us had to have some very adult discussions about death and illness, and the evils humans do, or could do if we let them. Now we just wanna airbrush it all. I'm all for people who want a nice quiet existence, but it's an unpredictable world. And people are still the same basic thing. Death is what we all face, what your parents faced and what their parents faced. And what our kids, and their kids will face. I'd hope people accepting that society needs to deal with it. It's difficult, but part of the experience is a new feeling of being free and alive, and valuing it. There were no guarantees we'd thrive, be healthy all our lives, or even eat, survive at all. It's a fucking miracle so many of us do. Never been close to this way in history. Seventy years without a major conflict? Unreal. Free medicine that gets better every year? No-one starving (even if it means a foodbank)? Incredible. TV's, mobiles, computers, cheap clothes and food for everyone.

We are so lucky. We should respect that, and not just get comfortable with the feeling of it all being so predictable. It wasn't for the golden generation and it might not be for future generations. Why should we feel we can deal with this massive problem, ignore the reality, ignore all warnings, because we are entitled to shut out what we don't want to deal with, pretending it isn't there? Other generations never had those priviledges. The only way to honour it is for people to recognise that, recognise that we were given the best world ever known, that it would lead to us being comfortable. And that it's only right to be honest and frank about what is happening in our world today.

Who do we expect to do it if we don't? Politicians? Doctors? We elect them. They do what we ask, believe it or not. Doctors - we set the rules. They respond to how we want to live. Nope. It's all on us, it always was, and it's time for people over the age of about 30 to take a good look at life, and throw their tuppence in the ring.

The government keep releasing new adverts, each time more and more scary. Bigger masks, people closer to death. Only people watching and taking notice are those at home. It’s preaching to the converted.

We need to see how effective the vaccine is out in the community. Reasonable to assume far fewer cases going to hospital is reasonable, and THE big thing. But it's still dangerous if we're passing it around despite the vaccine. It's a big public health worry in itself - we don't really know the long term effects, especially if people get several reinfections over a couple of years. Plus there's the risk of mutations.

That stands even if it's just the kids who are passing it around.

If not managed correctly, it could act like a catalyst.

I mean, imagine we get a mutation that reverts to something closer to SARS 1. A very deadly disease. Even if we hit the vaccination targets (doing two jabs!), a tonne of people will never get vaccinated, and others won't get immunity from it. We'd been in as bad a situation as we have now.

They'll have to move quite cautiously until they get results of how things are working on the ground.

I agree with everything you've said. Worries me because I think the vaccine with reduce illness but not stop transmission.

life isn’t worth living if you don’t live

if it gets to the point where they want to restrict human contact to that extent permanently (next year, 2 years, 5 years).

there has to be a time when you admit defeat and just take the risks.

all the science suggests that is not what will happen btw. Yes it will be lived with but there will be a day when it is decided you know what you don’t need to treat this as some special virus. The difficulty is going to be which major nation will go first for the rest to follow
