By the way only 34 of the 43 reported England hospital deaths occurred in the past 28 days

For a Friday that is a very low number.

Moreover only 6 of the North West ones occurred this week.

And 6 of them are more than a month old.

So looks like a big monthly audit. Look at how the 35% of NW is exactly the same as 4 weeks ago today more or less confirming that.

So in reality the numbers today are even better than they seem in terms of recent deaths and less emphasis on the NW which is a bit of an artefact

Can anyone explain to me why you have to be vaccinated to fly abroad? Not looking to go abroad till next year personally but seeing plenty of people booking flights with no vaccine in sight for them

so you don't die of Covid from different variants in other countries.

Would have thought it was a sensible precaution especially as health care will not be as simple as when we were in the EU.

Even when we were and I was on stage in Europe and fell through a gap hidden by a black curtain - in front of a German TV crew (do not ask!) - I preferred to get back to the NHS to be treated rather than submit myself to whatever may or may not happen there.

So the more protected against Covid the better for you as much as anyone else you might infect if you catch it over there.

Agreed. Focus should be on Q2 and Q3 production and delivery, using lessons learnt from Q1 issues. Projections are by end of Q2 there should be a surplus of vaccines in Europe, but there are still issues with getting vaccines into people‘s arms and some national Govts need to be doing better with the logistics of vaccine delivery.

Two additional plants likely to come online in Q2.

The EU drugs regulator is expected to approve two vaccination plants in the Netherlands and Germany as soon as today.’ @Bloomberg
When you look at the numbers, there isn't a great deal of difference in the EU countries, with only Malta (size) and Hungary (using the Russian vaccine) vaccinating significantly more.

I'm increasingly hearing 'the summer' used as when they anticipate a more rapid roll-out, but last year's summer went well into October...

The data continues to be very good. Constant downward trends barring the very odd blip. Honestly, unless some huge curveball came along - such as a totally vaccine resistant strain or a raft of old deaths that have been missed - I don't think we'll see triple digit daily death figures again

As predicted, BBC news leading on the threat caused in rise in "R" rate to an "estminated" (sic) 0.7 - 0.9.

No context of school return, the reduction in admissions, or even that an "R" rate below 1 means cases are still falling.

At the moment Covid-19 is no different to many of the worlds more serious diseases (Yellow fever, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Cholera, Diphtheria etc). You can't travel to places where these diseases are endemic without being vaccinated.
Why do you think Covid-19 should be different?

I get very boring about this every time the ONS survey is reported.

These numbers represent (quoting from the ONS) "the transmission of COVID-19 over the past few weeks"

They are NOT a current estimate of R as of today.

They are consistently awfully reported.

Right now R is probably ~1 - cases are flatlining.
Previously these numbers have been used to suggest that cases weren't going down when they transparently were.

It's useful data, but it's never reported responsibly.

I have not received a cheque from the German version of You've been framed thankfully. So I trust not.

To be fair they were there to film a far better known (and millionaire) nutter who I was appearing with and who managed not to fall off the stage.

I did break my hand so quite glad I waited to find that out until my return home next day.

But trying to explain to the ambulance crew why I was not going to hospital with them was fun. Took the mind away from the pain as I had carried on with the show for an hour after I fell off and adrenaline kept me going.

Virgin Atlantic joins host of airlines trialling covid 19 travel app..something's in the pipeline, the Beckhams and the Ramsey's holidaying in Barbados my guess.

Interesting to see that when it comes to fully vaccinated (two jabs) there is greater uniformity between countries than I thought.

Other news is that an additional Mordena plant is to come online in Switzerland and the EMA has approved Pfizer Covid vaccine storage at regular freezer temperature, instead of ultra-cold storage, for up to two weeks. This should help with the rollout.

Probably just the natural optimist in me, but I’m feeling upbeat about the next three months.

Nobody doubts the EU have had an epic fail in the whole vaccine saga from the very beginning but we should be careful not to echo too many daily mail/express headlines and misusing the word stockpiles - in Portugal their stockpile is literally enough to cover the second dose for the over 80s that have had their first jab and high risk which is on the 3 week regime other lower risk categories are on 6 weeks on the basis of future deliveries coming in on time
The EU beuracrates and some EU leaders don't think so - even though they have clearly fucked up royally.
Par for the course that they will pass the buck. It's what they do.
Incidently 41% of AZ vaccines they have, have not been used. WTF are they doing?

Northern Ireland data:

0 deaths - was 3 last week

181 cases - was 137 last week

6.1% positivity - was 8.2% last week

6 care home outbreaks - was 6 yesterday and 8 last week.

At the height there were 647 care homes in Northern Ireland with outbreaks! Now 6.

Weekly rolling cases total 1061 -was 1054 yesterday and 1102 last week

143 patients - down 10 in day - was 166 last week.

10 ventilated - same as yesterday - was 14 last week.
