My old man will be 90 next month. He lives alone, and barring visits from my sis and I to get his shopping, cleaning etc, has been on his own for almost a year now. This virus has robbed him of enjoying one of his twilight years. The football on TV has been a real lifeline for him. Not just watching it, but discussing it over the phone too.

Many are in the exact same situation. Football on TV has been essential.

I was against football coming back in a pandemic, but have changed my mind. It does give football fans something to talk about.
I dont see it as a real premiership season more a round robin of training matches.
It's only helping the football fans, and if my dad was around he would be watching all the games as he was lucky enough to be able to afford sky and BT.

It's not just the footballers that are selfless in their contribution to national well-being. It's the support services like elite hairdressers too. While the rest of the nation walks around looking like tramps or with badly done home hair cuts ,it's been great to see our footballers keeping up appearances with the help of a few brave barbers. I'd suggest a 'clap for footballers' on Thursday nights as a thank you, but of course thats when the rags play so no.

You could add the tattooist being kept going when football was in lockdown down ! A few had new tatts when last season restarted

Odd that there seems to be some divergence between the daily testing and the sampling. At first I thought it was down to timing but the latest survey for the ONS suggests that in the week ending 23 Jan 1 million had Covid in England. That's scarecly falling at all and yet the daily testing reports have fallen very substantially (68k to 29k over 3 weeks). Normally I'd go with the samples but we can see that hospitalisations are falling significantly too.

What about all those elderly,or vulnerable people living alone that have little else to look forward to. I know a coulpe of older men that we shop for that look forward to our sport chats after watching it when we ring or drop of shopping. Can’t see what harm televised elite sport does but have seen benefits.
Exactly, I'm 66 and live alone though I'm not vulnerable. I can only work from home and with the necessary restrictions on socialising televised sport is a welcome distraction from the more depressing aspects of lockdown.

How’s everyone who’s had COVID19 doing recently?
Can’t quite recall all the names but aware of @ayrshire_blue & @tolmie's hairdoo - how are you doing?

It’s around 3 weeks this weekend since I had the first symptoms & although I’m on the mend quite considerably now, I’m still chesty (not like that fellas....), unable to consider long walks (certainly nowhere near running fit), but breathless and ‘mind energy’ pretty low.

Do you think if I take precautions I’d be good to head to a supermarket (given it’s three weeks since my first symptoms but not everything being equal...).
Cant keep relying on other’s to bring supplies (my ex essentially).

I’m back in work btw - helped with my focus (its remote working & I ducked out of most meetings - I look a wreck so off cam/mic for the few meetings I attended).

Three weeks post start of symptoms and no symptoms suggestive of viremia mean you should be well out of the infectious stage and going to the supermarket should be fine.
Hope you improve quickly, but don't rush it .

From what you have posted over the last weeks I'd say you have had the equivalent of a severe dose of flu. I have had this twice, in 1968 when I was 14 and two years later at 16. 1968 was the first wave of Hong Kong flu and 1970 was the second wave of a different varient. Both times I was bed ridden for two weeks or more and I had to literary crawl to the toilet as I couldn't stand up. I lost a huge amount of weight both times and it took several weeks after my initial recovery to get back to normal. It was a horrible time and I have to say it makes me chuckle when people who have been off work for a couple of days say they had the flu.

Hopefully your recovery will start to speed up now.
