England hospital deaths - 258 - down from 301 last Sunday.

23 from NW versus 49 last week.

Not a huge week to week fall (though bigger percentage wise when you look at it that way) but good news and that NW number (despite low weekend reporting always applying here) is promising too.

The week to week fall is about 15% versus 25% last week

I cycled through yesterday and was staggered by the queues for the cafes, patisseries etc. Couldn’t get through the place fast enough.
You didn't say that when you lived there.
You never been the same since the residents got you evicted

England hospital deaths: 4 wks v 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v today

623 / 61 NW / 10%

563 / 82 NW / 15%

410 / 49 NW / 12%

301 / 49 NW / 16%

258 / 23 NW / 9% Today

Weekend data is always under reported and tricky to judge but down is down.

Scotland vaccinations:

1, 431, 942 first doses given - 19, 299 yesterday - was 26, 491 day before. Lowest since 3 wks ago today.

35, 479 second doses given - 2006 yesterday - was 4458 day before - lowest since last Sunday.

Scotland seem to be lower than most nations and especially on Sundays.

Northern Ireland data:

4 deaths - was 11 last wk

263 cases - was 176 last wk

16.8 % positivity - was 16.1% last wk

7 day rolling cases total 2140 - was 2070 yesterday - was 2095 last wk

(first rise in a while and flatlined all week)

47 care home outbreaks - same as yesterday - was 78 last wk

Patients 394 (up 2) - was 477 last wk

Ventilated 40 (down 2) - was 49 last wk

I'm depressed by the latest COVID-19 news. Expert virologists predict that this disease will be with us for years to come, perhaps decades - similar to influenza except more deadly. I hope that the virologists are wrong - but I have faith in science/experts... and so... it's simply hope.

On the bright side - science broadly speaking is still experiencing a sort of exponential growth in capability - advances in computer science enhance advances in biology and this synergy feeds an unprecedented, exponential growth in medical advances. So it's very possible that some sort of silver bullet may emerge.

Anyone have the gen on the claims out of Israel supposedly suggesting the vaccination programme is stopping 90% of infections and they hope to reach herd immunity by sometime in March.

Is it feasible to get there that fast with vaccination alone? Though Israel is a smallish nation where it is comparatively easy to cover everyone in weeks unlike the UK or US.

They have apparently got to about 32% of the population with both jabs now.

We are not far off that level having had one.

Guess watching the figures in these two countries over coming weeks will be illuminating.
Are Palestinians getting any vac?

More on England 258 hospital deaths:

By region

53 Midlands, 53 NE & Yorks, 46 South East, 37 East, 25 London, 23 North West, 21 South West

Mid Essex 12, Buckinghamshire 11, Mid Yorkshire 10 only double figures today

7 in Liverpool only significant NW number today

By age

20 - 39 (1) 0.4%

40 - 59 (22) 8.5%

60 - 79 (113) 43.8%

80 PLUS (122) 47.3%

Not much change still very much the over 60s but with the gap between them continuing to narrow and pushing two weeks now since the over 80s have been above 50%

Early days but still what you might expect to see at this stage.

Well it will be with us for years, but like flu we’ll learn to live with it and treat it better. Not to mention the things we’ve learnt about vaccinations and treatment , personal hygeine and protecting ourselves will also help reduce flu deaths and other viruses in future years alongside covid.
People will still die from covid just as people still die from flu or pneumonia. Without wanting to sound heartless these will be people that would probably be quite frail and susceptible to life shortening illness.

Like a vaccine?

Party time in Monton this morning. Every man and his dog with a coffee and their household bubbles of 18 people, half mask less and about 3 inches from the next. Queues outside coffee shops for a brew. Rubbish already collecting on pavements and fences. How the fuck are coffee shops essential?

Won’t it get to a point were everyone over 60 has been vaccinated and under 60 with underlying conditions too and the % age won’t change. Then it will be the numbers we’ll have to watch not the % ages.

If coffee shops are serving outside the door and queues are 2 metres does it matter ? Same as Greggs are doing.

If only they were eh? Watched at least 3 people walk straight in and out whilst sat at traffic lights. They're a magnet for crowds to congregate, for a brew and a chat.

Another one who claims to know what i think becos i asked a q. Grow up.
I am very grown up thanks. But I will give you an opportunity to explain, why did you ask about whether or not the Palestinians are being vaccinated, it’s a total non sequitur.
