That seems a pretty unlikely statistic to me but in general terms even if it is just 'almost' true that would be amazing.

That's fantastic. I guess we're still seeing a few dozen deaths from people in the higher age bands who caught it before being fully vaccination or weren't able/chose not to take it but even those numbers are plummeting now.

hmm. i'd rather got the impression that the wave in mainland europe was lagging behind our kent variant-driven wave of Dec/Jan? he is saying we are to expect another wave? as that would mean goodbye to roadmap as we know it.

Thought the same but I guess this may be a reference to potential development of a variant. Not sure. May have been said due to the argument over the supply of vaccines. It would not look good if we are stating that we are well on top of things when the Govt is fighting with the EU over vaccine supply.

So the deaths with England out of hospital to come is today 49.

First sub 50 number even on a Monday in over 5 months I think.

I think zero deaths is unlikely as I suggested, Indeed I noticed the BBC cut that sentence out in subsequent reports of the same story so perhaps someone cautioned them on over optimism.

But by far the real key is the very high efficacy in stopping serious disease. That is exactly what we needed but did not ever really expect at anywhere near 100%.

And is now why cases matter less than the hospital data.
 
The cases from the three nations with England to come are today a very welcome 596.

This is the lowest total for many months.

I'm in Valencia where my two kids haven't missed a day of school since September and where, apart from 4/5 weeks after Christmas, shops, bars, hairdressers, restaurants etc have all remained open. But yeah, let's all blame europe and the EU for the UK mess.

I know where I'd rather have been these past few months even with a tentative approach to vaccines.

There's absolutely fuck all wrong with him saying "Europe on the other hand are going to struggle for a while longer, which made the whole pausing the AZ vaccine even more ridiculous IMO."

Now if you want to dress that up as him blowing smoke up Johnson's arse when many of us over here by and large think he's done a poor job overall on this then that's your prerogative, but none of that alters the indisputable fact that Europe's vaccine rollout so far has been utterly shambolic. But yeah, you just crack on and use Boris Johnson as a diversionary tactic for that. Believe it or not, it's actually possible to be critical of both Johnson and Europe's vaccination programme, but you couldn't help yourself and tried to make it all about politics.

You’ve totally misunderstood his point. Jay is not attacking that poster, he’s attacking Johnson for his subtle and predictable blame-shifting.

No we don't
Russia's excess death toll in 2020 alone was 189k and in terms of deaths per capita, Czeckia, Belgium, Hungry, and Slovenia are higher.
Also we have had the Kent variant powered 3rd wave while Europe is still near the start of the 3rd wave.
That's not to say we won't get a 4th wave of Brazil/SA variant. Lorry drivers are bound to bring it in.

No I haven't. He was implying that the poster was being played by Johnson when anyone with half a brain cell can see how poor the rollout has been across Europe and how well we have done so far in comparison. We can also see how poor our government has been on a lot of things during this pandemic, and how shite our figures were before the vaccine rollout. Oh, and we don't need jay to tell us all how fucking wonderful things currently are in Spain and how shit things have been over here.
