258 reducing to 23 in just over a month - great progress.
 
President Macron has just delivered a speech on Covid-19.

He rather reminded me of Inspector Clouseau's boss, Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Herbert Lom). All he needed was the eye twitch and it would have been a perfect impression.

I wonder what the uptake is now we're reaching the lower age groups?
Plenty of jabs unused because of lack of interest at my local centre, I'm told.

I'm a long way from you mate. It seems they were offered out to asthmatic etc. My lad, 30, had his as did a couple of mates under 50. Perhaps we're reaching the point where people are becoming a little more dubious due to the negative press.

England Regional Summary:

SOUTH

Some surprising increases here given the low numbers.

East down 31 to 224

London UP 19 to 402

South East UP 124 to 479

South West down 38 to 168 - lowest normal England regional score I can recall


MIDLANDS

More expected numbers with modest falls here

East down 81 to 372

West down 68 to 376


NORTH

The glitch still impacting North East I assume given the really low number. Otherwise some reasonable falls

North East 38 up from the MINUS 576 but hard to know what it 'really' is as that would be a record low for any UK region. So unlikely to be real without the data adjustment I suspect.

Yorkshire down 89 to 627 - some of which is its lowest in a while but still top score in England.

And


North West falls by a whopping 219 - best of day - to 449 - lowest NW total since last Summer. NW certainly has the best of today's fall IF there is not another local glitch in the data as happened a week ago when we last had such a big fall.

We will see I guess.

I don't know - other than a friend who was a medical secretary at a Manchester hospital told me this was common practice where she worked. I guess it might be just down to how different hospitals act but it has been very apparent in the data right back to last April that NW under reports at weekend and over reports to catch up mid week. They also commonly have a big Friday once a month where they back audit I presume.

Once we are this low in the numbers it really makes minimum difference though.

I think it is not just the North West either as the numbers in England hospitals are always highest on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and again always have been as weekend data is held over and added.

I also think they may wait in some cases to the new week to consult with the family on registration as there have been some disputes on whether Covid should be on the death certificate or was the main cause of death.

Very few hospital administrative staff work at weekends and doctors working weekend shifts just don't have time to do administrative tasks.
 
Greater Manchester Summary

I do suspect another issue here today as the fall in GM cases is noticeably LESS than in other parts of the NW today - when it was MORE the other day and it did then prove a problem in GM data. So who knows? Either way the GM % of the NW total is the highest I have ever seen at 62%! A big leap despite GM falling by nearly 100 day to day. Something not quite right with these numbers again here.

Anyhow....

Cases 279 - down 96 on yesterday and versus 492 last week and 317 week before.

This is 62.1% of the NW total of 449 - highest GM has ever been.

Here are how the ten boroughs did. There is another huge surprise that just adds to my suspicions on the data.


Manchester top as usual with just 55 - down 27 and from 83 last week so Pop will drop

Bolton second at 41 - down 4 and down 8 wk to wk so Pop will fall.

BUT - Trafford is third highest. Yes you read that right. On 33 up 18 and up 7 from last week. The only GM borough not down week to week is so odd it further suggests that something is amiss today.

Indeed Pop Score wise Trafford LOST 7 in the day on Stockport - an event not heard of for many weeks.

Tameside is next on 30 - same as yesterday but down 26 wk to wk so weekly Pop will come down big too.

Wigan are in fifth at 23. - 21 down day to day and 22 week to week so a good fall in Pop score.

Rochdale just behind on 22 - down 11 day to day but a big fall of 37 wk to week. So good news for Pop here.

Salford also clocks 22 - down 11 on yesterday and 23 wk to wk so will see Pop score fall too.

Bury comes next at 21 - up 2 but down 15 wk to wk so will be to the benefit of its the weekly pop.

Oldham three less on 18 - down 27 on the day and 25 wk to wk.


Which means on topsy turvy day that for the first time in a very long time Stockport had the best numbers.

Stockport at just 16 down 4 on the day but also the high of 34 wk to wk to benefit its Pop Score - both weekly - which falls again - and overall which 'cuts' its trail to Trafford to 'just' 182.

With supreme irony on its best day in months Stockport rises by just 6 - lowest Pop Score rise of the day - but enough to take it into the 7000 club on 7003. Leaving Trafford (whose day was much less good) the only one left in the 6000 club at 6821.

Trafford was looking like 6 weeks or so away from reaching the 7000 club at scores it was getting daily but more numbers like today and it will be a lot less.


Odd day in Greater Manchester.

Yes, I am sure that remains true. But it certainly seems more evident in the North West and has been across the whole pandemic. There is usually a bigger catch up effect in this region than in other regions.

Happily at the numbers we are getting now it makes very little difference when they are reported as there are so few to report.
