Northern Ireland data:

0 deaths - was 2 last week

84 cases - was 138 last week

5.9% positivity - was 7.1% last week

Weekly cases total 788 - was 846 yesterday & 1066 last week

6 Care Home outbreaks - was 6 yesterday and 5 last week.

105 patients - down 7 on yesterday - was 130 last week

10 Ventilated - up 1 on yesterday - was 10 last week.

More on 41 England hospital deaths:

By region:- 14 South East, 8 NE & Yorkshire, 6 Midlands, 5 East, 4 South West, 2 London, 2 North West

7 in East Kent and 6 in Doncaster the most - there was quite a bit of backdating from end of month audits I think.

The 2 in the NW were 1 each in Chester and Manchester

Ages of the 41:- 20 - 39 (1), 40 - 59 (6), 60 - 79 (19), 80 PLUS (13)

Another lower percentage for over 80s. Been a few lately.

Scotland data:

0 deaths - was 6 last week

397 cases - was 563 last week

2.1% positivity - was 2.4% last week

No other data today. But more big falls.

Great to see those falls. I do wonder if there's 'reporting issues' with the bank holiday weekend and some bulk additions will be added in the coming weeks. Never the less, its still great to see this trajectory.

Cases week to week for the three nations with England to come is 576

Wk to wk: 1442 v 907 v 922 v 995 v 855 v 902 v 576 TODAY

Big fall after weeks of flatlining.

As Ayrshire says it is a Bank Holiday weekend but everywhere week to week the positivity has fallen so that is worth noting as it infers it is not just fewer people being tested causing the drops.

England hospital deaths wk to wk:

307 / 59 NW / 18%

257 / 40 NW / 16 % (16 % fall wk to wk)

185 / 18 NW / 10% (28% fall wk to wk)

118 / 19 NW / 16% (36% fall wk to wk)

71 / 8 NW / 11% (40% fall wk to wk)

58 / 11 NW / 20% (18% fall wk to wk)

41 / 2 NW / 5% (29% fall wk to wk) TODAY

All settings deaths 10 - lowest in many months and a lot discounted presumably

Bit of a puzzle why this low really. Even with the backdating today that seems a lot discounted.

Cases up 21 from yesterday to 3423 v 4715 last Saturday and 5587 week before.

crikey I wonder what the French and Italians think when they see numbers like this.

I feel for them. We are really doing well. Also the first big test of unlocking of kids going back to school has not resulted in a big spike in new cases .
What a great impact the vaccines appear to have had. Let’s hope we keep on improving. At the risk of stating the obvious. the European mainland countries have to accelerate their vaccine rollouts

No big changes in the regional scoreboards

East down 65 to 227

London up 64 to 350

South East down 86 to 236

South West down 31 to 115 - new lowest regional total in 2021

East Midlands down 62 to 291

West Midlandsdown 58 to 303

Noorth East up 32 to 166

Yorkshire up 73 to 613

AND North West - down 8 to 437 - lowest total in many months.

Sadly the constant negativity towards the AZ vaccine will delay any major improvement in Europe .

I think the post-Christmas lockdown helped drive down the cases initially and coupled with the increased vaccine rollout it’s then led to an even bigger impact on cases, serious cases, and deaths. The problem the rest of Europe seems to have had isn’t just their slow vaccine rollout but that they haven’t had as stringent or as long a lockdown in 2021 as we’ve had. Now some of these countries are looking at tougher restrictions and lockdowns just as the UK seemingly comes out the other side. I think the European countries missed a trick after Christmas and should’ve locked down then.

Greater Manchester scoreboard:

Less good - UP by 5 to 255 - so % increase v North West to 58.4%

But wk to wk that is versus 376 last week - so well down.

And not much change worth worrying about. All in all a good day.

Though after several good days only Stockport had a slightly disappointing day today - up 1 to 27. But up week to week by 7. So will lose a couple of Pop Score points and possibly the GM lead.

But for that to be the worst news of the day shows it was pretty OK all round.

All 9 other boroughs bar 1 were down wk to wk even if up a fair bit day to day.

Manchester top score - up 21 to 64 (down from 82 last wk)

Rochdale was up 17 to be next on 34 but down from 43 wk to wk.

Tameside equalled Stockport on 27 but unlike them fell 3 wk to wk

Oldham had 1 less on 26 and down 19 wk to wk so good Pop Score fall there.

Bolton had its best day in a while on just 23 way down from 45 last week

The other four regions were all UNDER 20 - first time that has happened in a while.

Wigan on 17 continued its progress well down from 44

Trafford not even second lowest on 15 - but continued its improvement over past few days which matched last week's total exactly so will not change its pop score.

Bury was not top though - even scoring just 12 - down from 19 last week.

Top goes to - rather surprisingly - Salford! With a lowest here for many many moons on just 10! Way down on 33 last week.

GM Weekly Pop Scores after today:~

Borough / Score Today / Score 7 days ago / up or down wk to wk/ Testing is % of local population who have tested positive for Covid over past year.

As ever with Pop scores going up is bad, going down good - the higher the number the better or worse depending on direction moving. The Pop Score is total cases in past week versus 100,000 POPulation to even out the comparison versus size and expected cases based on numbers living there.

Bolton 86/ 113 / Down 27 Testing positive 8.9%

Oldham 84 / 120 Down 36 Testing positive 9.6%

Manchester 83 / 103 / Down 20 Testing positive 9.5%

Tameside 82 / 125 / Down 43 Testing positive 8.0%

Rochdale 77 / 120 / Down 43 Testing positive 9.4%

Trafford 67 / 58/ UP 9 Testing positive 6.9%

Salford 65 / 87 / Down 22 Testing positive 8.9%

Wigan 62 / 101 / Down 39 Testing positive 8.7%

Stockport 60 / 81 / Down 21 Testing positive 7.1%

Bury 56 / 84 / Down 32 Testing positive 8.9%

As you see another good day Stockport being overtaken by Bury for lowest weekly Pop. Trafford still the only one with a Pop up week to week but not struggling any more so should soon be level

The lowest scorers in the early days of the pandemic have re-established the old normality as numbers have tumbled. But every borough with a Pop well under 100 now.

Weekly cases:- Bury increased its lead to sit on just 108 whilst - at 158 Trafford stays second. Stockport loses ground up to 175 now. Rochdale took advantage to go above them on 171. But Salford did too and overtook both with their low score today to now be just 169. Tameside also sub 200 at 191.

Others:- Bolton 250, Manchester 455, Oldham 200. Wigan 204.

Made my first trip to Manchester since September today to see my lad today, taking the sun with me over the A57 from Sheffield. The city looked wonderful, only lacking the crowds we'll soon be getting back. Well-behaved youngsters out on litter-free Cathedral Gardens.

The lad was setting up booking system for his barbers in Albert Square, feels like a weight lifting to see the re-opening coming fast now.

Keep the faith, blues.

I commute between Leeds and Manchester and in many ways, the city centres are quite similar but Manchester has a homeless problem that I haven't seen in Leeds. It's probably much more obvious when there are so few people around.

I too look forward to the City re-opening. I feel safe now because I've been vaccinated. I can travel on trains now without worrying about where I sit. It should just be a question of reopening gradually and watching the data. It would have been a bit better had vaccine supply been better because still an awful lot of people under 50 who are most prone to infection have still to be vaccinated.

Do you live in Leeds, Marvin?
