Slightly sore arm but less so than with first one or annual flu jab and no excess tiredness as I had after the first for 12 hours or so. Most who have had their second AZ said much the same to me. But like me most of them are over 60. So it might be different if you are younger.

firstly, hope you get better very quickly.

i am interested in you particularly as you were very pro opening up completely a while back, or certainly getting everyone back to doing stuff. I just wonder how youre position has changed? if at all? do you think it should be slowed down or kept at pace or sped up?

without being flippant mate. God knows. Found winter hard locked down and got a bit down and then hit very hard with it and feel very bad. I suspect it is going to grow quickly next few weeks? It has to I think unless people stay really sensible. I would not wish it on Paddy Creerand or Terry Christian. That’s how bad it is.

yeah thanks, it's just interesting that some people say slow down and others say speed up. also just because someone suffers from it does not mean a national policy should change either. i would say with confidence that anyone who professes the right answer or strategy to this, at the UK scale nevermind the continental or global scale, is full of shit.

I'd agree with this, but perhaps less strongly.

We don't know *nothing* about how best to respond to this.

The places that have done best:

- have responded fast to rising cases/deaths
- have prioritised health rather than economy
- have tested extensively
- have been consistent.

I note that Singapore are now rated best, even above New Zealand, so this is NOT a population density thing.

The current UK approach seems very sensible (at last!). I hope we stick to it.

i've always had huge doubts about population density but i think the jury is still out on that one. mixed evidence anyway.

yes i agree there a good signs of best strategy, but i certainly didnt mean we know nothing, more that we cannot claim with certainty on the right path, even at the expert level nevermind the BM forum groupthink level

Group of scientists are saying lift all restrictions now. Surely caution is still the right policy?

India is a huge place with hundreds of subcultures. Comparing somewhere like Ludhiana to Chennai for example is pointless. Remember, India has the highest population of middle-class people in the world.

High population density probably has far more to do with the spread of COVID than anything else.

Absolutely, I agree with a lot of that, particularly the final sentence. I just disagree it's a racist comment, although he's undoubtedly thick and ill informed.
 
England hospital deaths

Is down a little but slowly slowly.

26 deaths with 4 from North West - 4 are older than a month so may be discounted.

Last week 34 with 2

wk before 33 with 8

wk before 12 with 1 (this was Easter so data was under reported) ,

wk before 40 with 8

wk before 98 with 19
 
Scotland data:

1 death - was 2 last week

133 cases - was 178 last week

1.0% positivity - was 1.3% last week

81 patients - down 12 in day - was 106 last week

11 ventilated - down 1 in day - was 13 last week.

More good data here too.

Only a tiny minority, and you can count amongst them those who claimed the UK had reached herd immunity in June last year (!!) (Gupta) and that Indians shouldn't be vaccinated because they have "natural immunity"

Contrarians are important in science so ideas are challenged and new approaches developed.

But following the advice of fringe views for public policy, as we did last year, is a recipe for disaster.

Frankly, these people have blood on their hands.
 
Zoe app predictions:

998 cases down just 11 from yesterday.

18, 506 symptomatic ongoing cases - down 626 on yesterday.


Liverpool at 1460 cases per million still most in NW.

But Huddersfield and Wakefield both up around 2350 / 2400 the highest in the north.

Only Trafford and Manchester over 200 cases per million in NW and only just.

Most below 200 and Oldham and Rochdale below 100.

We need 80%+ of country vaccinated and be serous on people coming into the country being tested or needing to be vaccinated to come in..

Just out of curiosity, are any of the scientists who did not get things wrong saying lockdown should be eased sooner? Your graphic suggests that only those who were wrong throughout have signed this latest letter.

The graphic predates the letter. I've not looked at all of the signatories. It's, however, striking that people who have been so drastically and consistently wrong throughout pop up yet again, and get the same welcoming publicity from the same news organisations.

Despite their appalling track record.

4 care home outbreaks - - same as yesterday - was 5 last week

Weekly cases rolling total 670 - was 695 yesterday - was 774 last week

62 patients - up 1 on testerday - was 71 last week

3 ventilated - same as yesterday - was 6 last week
