It's estimated that in order to build an accurate picture of variant activity within a region, 5% of samples must be sequenced. France was at just under 5% back in May.

For me, that would seem to be enough to be statistically valid to a reasonable extent.

Previously, we've had numbers from them on the South Africa variant whatever that's called now - they were in line with the rest of the mainland.

Fact is that - historically - the UK accounts for more passengers to and from India than France, Germany, Italy and Spain combined. I don't see much more to this story than that.
It is nowhere near good enough. Delta will be rapidly spreading replacing existing variants then bang it starts to double.
France has many vietnamese living their and there is an even worse varriant coming from there.

Fucking useless.

There NEEDS to be more clarification when the isolation of school classes because of positive cases stops. And also what happens in terms of testing healthy people against something and forcing people into isolation regardless of negative tests.

We can piss and moan about the 4 weeks but if freedom and no restrictions aren't what they are supposed to be, it isn't "normal".

Not that I’m getting married, but does this mean you can have a huge wedding, but would have to remain seated and no dancing?
It would depend on the venue. My wife’s church can seat 200 people in normal circumstances. With social distancing, it’s about 75. The actual number depends on the number of bubbles/households.

Now Boris has spaffed his latest, I'm going to take some time off here for at least a few days now, spent far too much time on this recently.

I'm writing this so you can all call me a twat if I come back within a week.

Very best to all Blues with businesses, travel, weddings, personal or family mental health problems, or anything else still fucked up by this. We're nearly there.

All of the top 20 areas in England with the most Covid cases in the past week are in the North West, Including all of Greater Manchester.

This official Weekly Pop Score is 5 day old data remember but in GM only Bolton and Stockport have actually fallen and not risen in the five days since.

just did this for 3 days over the weekend - no news, no internet, no radio, nothing. In the sun with friends in wales and covid was barely mentioned, nevermind the cases and all that jazz. I felt a different person on Sunday. All the best.

Pfizer 96% effective of preventing hospitalisation after 2 doses. AZ 92% effective. Those are really encouraging numbers from the PHE today. We could hardly have dreamed of that this time last year.
Numbers that show we must continue this lockdown… oh…
Hang on the wokey wokey leftwaffe representatives on here say hospitalisations are set to rocket

Some people have suggested having the vaccine brainwashes you.

Here we have an example of someone being brainwashed without a vaccine.
Wrong on both counts.
I’ve had it twice and the brainwashing is believing what you have been allowed to be heard. Tedious listening to people like you

Whitty boasted about vaccine efficiency but then argued we need to slow down. Make no sense. It works or it doesn’t work.

he also said that on July 19 he expects cases to have risen. So guess what his advice will be about on unlocking Then.

Seatbelts work, wouldn't fancy driving at 100mph round a bend on a country road though. Especially if there's 5 of us in the car and 2 of us haven't even strapped in yet.

You also don’t buy a soft top to take out on the weekend and drive at 5mph.

why are you so anti-vax?

Cases across the regions:

Change in last 24 hrs V seven days ago

SOUTH

East UP 88 to 344 V 321

London DOWN 154 to 778 V 601

South East UP 37 to 607 V 545

Yorkshire down 147 to 553 V 494 - another big fall here

AND

NORTH WEST UP 128 to 2262 V 1673 - still going up

Past weeks NW numbers are 1673 - 1840 - 2112 - 1976 - 2317 - 2191 - 2134 - 2262

that’s not a great analogy . People die on roads every day in the uk.

if I was put in charge of stopping road deaths and that was my sole focus I would say everyone in the uk cannot drive and nobody can use the roads.

it would stop road deaths and my job would be done but it would not be a proportionate response to that risk for the wider society

At the moment we have had a risk free, zero case Covid response to the pandemic With everything being about controlling Covid.

despite all vulnerable to Covid who took the jab request taking it Up. Yet despite that it seems to me the main response seems to be additional mandatory social control measures.

come September October we will be back to full lockdown For the winter.

Full GM details:

Total cases 1103 - Up 66 on Yesterday - from NW rise of 128. About par of 50%

Wk to wk up 278 of the NW rise of 589 - just under the expected 50%.

So GM had a steady day again relative to rest of the region.

BOROUGH / CASES TODAY / V YESTERDAY / V LAST WEEK

BOLTON 109/ UP 9 / DOWN 5

BURY 102 / UP 20 / UP 43

MANCHESTER 256 / DOWN 28 / UP 83

OLDHAM 63 / DOWN 9 / UP 19

ROCHDALE 72 / UP 9 / UP 21

SALFORD 132 / UP 19 / UP 55

STOCKPORT 92 / UP 22 / DOWN 5

TAMESIDE 63 / UP 5 / UP 5

TRAFFORD 81 / UP 11 / UP 16

WIGAN 133 / UP 8 / UP 46

Half the boroughs over 100 today including Bury agaon.

Stockport and Bolton the only boroughs to be down week to week for the third day running.

Manchester now though double everywhere else in GM and up big again week to week.

Will always have the biggest score because of population but is still much too high.
