The stadium is rammed. So what have they done right that the rest of the world haven't?
Hungary has had the second worst deaths per 1m in the world, behind only Peru. They’ve done terribly.

They are currently on 43% of their nation on two jabs for the vaccine though. It’s just that they’ve made the choice to allow this and are only letting those with two jabs into the game, not that they’ve done brilliantly with the pandemic.

I see anti lockdown protesters harrassed BBC journalist. What with anti vaxers and conspiracy nuts, this virus has caused a few ructions as well as serious damage to life, limb and jobs.

Unfortunately the hospital data is NOT so good. Especially for the North West.

Admissions (recall these are from 13 June) up to 187 - highest in many weeks and up 50 from day before.

66 of these were in the North West. Highest daily number here since 20 March.

But Yorkshire rising too from 12 to 32 and London up too.

North West patients up by 21 in the last 24 hours to 349 V 246 last week - this rise is growing. This is the most since 14 April.

And even more worryingly the NW ventilators continue to shoot up by the most in England and go up by 7 on the day to 70. Been rising now steadily for 2 weeks and is now at the most since 30 March.

Both these numbers are easily the worst of all England regions as well as higher than all the other 3 nations in the UK both individually AND added together as all three.

THE IMPACT OF THE NW RISE ON ENGLAND HOSPITAL NUMBERS IS PROFOUND

England Patients up 37 to 1030 - taking the England number back over 1000 for first time since 5 May.

On that day (before the Delta variant) the NW contributed 178 of the 1032 patients in England

Today that is 349 of the 1030.

The NW percentage of cases in hospital in England has DOUBLED in those 6 weeks because of Delta.

England ventilators much the same. Up 17 today to 187 in England alone. The North West contributing 70 of these. First time England was this high since 28 April.

On that day (before Delta variant) the NW contributed just 26 of the 188 ventilators.

The NW percentage of really sick ventilated patients has almost TREBLED in those 7 weeks.

How are they allowed to stage games there then in a packed stadium with no masks or distancing? Turn on your TV it is incredible.
Yeah watching it now, cracking competitive game.

They are second only to Britain in Europe for number of second jabs (43%) and they’ve only let people in who’ve had two jabs. I think it’s a bit daft to be honest, but they might just be a more blasé country about people dying of a virus?

To be fair to them, while we’ve had a greater percentage of our country second jabbed (45%), we have had around 8,000 new cases today while Hungary have only had around 60 new cases. They’re just in a good position as it stands with a lack of new variants in their country at the moment. Sometimes it’s just down to chance that someone entering the country has or doesn’t have a new variant of the virus.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the pictures. Well it's raging through the world it appears so I think it's a matter of time, unless they actually control their borders better than we do.

I wonder how mny of these seriously ill people have been vaccinated? Do they publish these figures healdplace?

So UK Hospital situation.

England 1030 patients - 187 ventilators

of which

NW 349 patients - 70 ventilators

N Ireland 15 patients - 0 ventilators

Scotland 137 patients - 17 ventilators

Wales 41 patients - 1 ventilator.

TOTAL UK :- 1223 patients & 205 ventilators

Still modest numbers BUT look at how Delta has tipped the NW into a much worse position than the rest of the UK. Seems as if it is causing severe illness more often than the older variant elsewhere.

If in coming weeks this happens in all the other regions of the UK that is why this will create a problem.

Maybe they learnt a hard lesson with their death rate being so high (3,106 deaths per 1m pop) and have got on top of it.

The borders issue is the main thing we got wrong in this pandemic (more than once!).

One quarter of the entire patient load in the UK and one third on ventilators in the North West.

Surely there should be much more help coming to the region?

They have a populist leader in place. Just like Brazil, the UK and the US pre Biden. Slogans and nationalism appear to be useless against Covid. Who would have thought it.

Can't see the NW being in a much better position come 19th July?
