Pfizer covid pill US pharmaceutical giant has started giving people doses of a pill against covid 19 as part of a new clinical trial. Could be available October/ December.
Apparently several other drug manufacturers hoping to develop the first anti viral pill.. Game Changer

something pill based will be a game changer globally. one of the biggest issues with the current vaccines is distribution due to needing to be refrigerated ( not sure how many still need -80'c ). a pill removes all that allowing for easy distribution to areas lacking infrastructure.

Exactly..if anti viral meds become available in 2021 then 2022 will look a hell of a lot better..we hope

ONS report on suicide rates during lockdown. Rate reduced, mainly amongst men.

"Our findings are consistent with other studies, which found no increase in suicide in the seven months that followed the first national lockdown in 2020. They are also comparable with research covering other countries - such as the United States, Germany, Japan and Australia - which found that suicide numbers have remained largely unchanged or declined in the early months of the pandemic compared with the expected levels based on the pre-pandemic period."

a university professor from Salford was on TV months ago stating that the suicide rate had actually dropped slightly during the first stage of lock down, but like that report would not say anything about later dates, maybe it had to do with the weather?

I assume we haven't collated the data for later lockdowns. I have no insight or knowledge on this issue, so I can't say why. My immediate thought was men at home on furlough was better for their mental health than working, but I could be talking absolute bollocks and further data may reverse this trend.

There was a belief that as with lock down the pubs and bookies would shut, these being the places that single old men visited during the day for their social activities, would have a very negative impact confining these people to their own prisons, as it happens the good weather may have had a big impact on that and people learnt to socialize/live at the supermarket I have no ides why later data is not available, it should not change as people would have adapted by then?

4000 children added with long Covid in month to 1 August alone. Taking total to 38,000. According to ONS.

And we are still dithering too long as usual whilst the world inoculates them if they choose.

Horse Bolted Stable Door spring to mind.

Pro active we have not been throughout!

WALES DATA

THIS IS ONE DAY I BELIEVE SO YESTERDAY MUST HAVE BEEN TWO

5 deaths - was 1 last week

2275 cases - was 2389 last week

Positivity rate 13.2% - was 13.8% last week.

302 patients - was 240 last wk

44 ventilated - was 37 last week

So a small fall in cases and positivity rate is good news

I can think of 1 pro active move that worked really well which was delaying 2nd dose and getting more 1st doses out asap. that worked well until Delta at least at which point we needed to swap back.
Correct

ZOE APP DATA

Another small rise in predicted cases from 57, 158 to 57, 322

And ongoing symptomatic cases up big but less than yesterday - by 8834 - down from a rise of 11, 529 yesterday - to 740, 368 ongoing cases

REGIONS:-

North West slightly UP at 832 / 1090 but falls to fourth BELOW Scotland who go third behind N Ireland (top) and Yorkshire

N Ireland on 858 / 2021 - which is down a little

Yorkshire UP slightly from 861 / 1156 TO 869 / 1168

Scotland still rising - hence overtaking NW - from 777 / 1073 to 825 / 1128

London still falling on 635 / 814. Only East England is lower now - just - in UK on 624 / 813.

These are the only two in the lowest watch zone.

N Ireland & Yorkshire the only two in the highest.

All the rest in the middle

GREATER MANCHESTER:-

Stockport has fallen slightly to 20, 108 (from 20, 920) - BUT still the worst in GM and now the only one in the highest watch zone.

Wigan in second has fallen to 18, 460. From 20, 811

Trafford in third - though - is still going UP onto 17, 603 from 16, 189.

Bury tripled over a few days rising every day is now on 12, 098 is next.

But Bolton has been falling slowly and loks set to exit the middle watch zone down on 10, 577.

The other five boroughs all in the lowest watch zone:

Manchester down on 7888, Tameside up on 7348, Oldham down on 5921, Salford up slightly on 5244 and the best in GM and lowest numbers in some time in the county:

Rochdale on just 3969 - it was 32, 098 two weeks ago! So there is hope for Stockport.

West Lancashire - the region between Bootle, Formby and Southport in west and Wigan in the east is by far the worst in the NW and possibly the UK.

Up today on 38, 759 - and I do not recall a higher number than this in the NW.

The near perpetual high scorers in past 3 months - like Chorley and Preston - are also still in mid 20Ks above all in GM.

Why GM is faring relatively well v the NW at the moment.

Sefton (17, 616), Wirral (12. 338) Liverpool (10, 452) and St Helens (26, 818 - second highest in NW) are creating the most cases currently in this western part of the region.

Chester and West Cheshire has also gone very high on 15, 081 - way above the actually very well performing Cheshire East - which Andy Hinch will be delighted to hear has utterly broken the usual link with Stockport and been plummeting. Now on just 6572.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS THURSDAY

118 with 20 North West

Last week 100 with 10 & week before 80 with 8.

Good news - no exponential rise in cases week to week. Like hospital numbers just inching up still.

Bad news - North West - which as my data from hospitals each evening in here has been showing has seen a rise in ventilated patients in past 10 days when most other England regions are flat or falling - and is now sadly starting to reap the consequences with a higher death rate.

Indeed but for that NW jump this week the numbers week to week in England would be even flatter.

118 ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS

By region:-

East 7, London 18, Midlands 22, NE & Yorkshire 28, North West 20, South East 15. South West 8

By trust:-

Northumbria with 7 and Leicester with 5 the most.

In North West:

Pennine Acute 4, Lancashire, Liverpool and St Helens 3 each, Manchester, Salford & Wirral 2 each and 1 in Blackpool

By age:-

0-19 (2) , 20 - 39 (1), 40 - 59 (9), 60 - 79 (61) and 80 PLUS (45)
