SCOTLAND DATA

11 deaths - was 8 last week

6152 cases - was 5858 cases last week

12.9% positivity - was 14.2% last week - hints of this starting to fall

670 patients - up 17 on yesterday - was 494 last week

58 ventilated - was 60 yesterday - was 49 last week

Hospital numbers still high but maybe slowing a little too. Hopefully.

Is the Sun scare mongering or is there really some concern over the Mu variant (yes another one!)

Very few cases in the UK all seemingly believed to be linked to travel in the young but it is taking off in South America where it originated. And seemingly has potential to be fast spreading and vaccine evading.

I guess we will get lots of stories like this till we reach the end of the Greek alphabet and something sneaks up on us out of nowhere - the 'boo' variant perhaps?

No panic as yet it seems but I guess we will all get to know this alphabet over coming years as Covid mutates for fun.

One day hopefully into a less harmful version. Then we can say come on in and let everyone catch it.

do boosters start on 6th ?

Boosters for the most vulnerable from Monday was rumoured but I have not seen any confirmation.

And no idea if the delivery truck issues over the flu jabs are impacting more than just that.

120 all settings deaths

37, 578 cases

Though no Wales data on Saturdays remember.

NORTHERN IRELAND ADDED 1812 cases today - up from 1430 last week

29, 614 cases today come from England.

Up 4916 on last Saturday.

This is actually UP by more than yesterday - which was 4181 week to week.

The most vulnerable aren’t getting ‘boosters’ but the advice is that they’ll be getting 3 doses. This is for the immunosuppressed patients only and is not part of any booster programme, which will be advised upon separately by the JCVI.
Effectively the immunosuppressed will get 4 doses, if a booster programme is recommended.
It’s looking increasingly like natural infection is also providing excellent protection, particularly with variants, and should be factored into any discussion about booster doses. I’d say past infection status should also be factored into any vaccine passport issues but, of course, there should be no such thing as a vaccine passport.

There were 7 deaths added by Northern Ireland today. Last week it was 6.

England added 102 deaths today.

That is actually down from 119 England had last Saturday. 85 in hospital then.

NORTH WEST AND GM HIGHLIGHTS

NORTH WEST

Down on day by 375 to 4102

BUT Up 658 week to week from 3444 last Saturday

Greater Manchester is down just 127 of that 375 which is a bit below expectations. To 1498 today.

THAT is up by 202 of the 658 week to week from 1296 last Saturday.

This is about on par or slightly better,

So an OK day really in the circumstances but the trend is now very clearly upward.

Nobody in GM had a really bad day.

Bury had the best day - actually down day to day and week to week and on just 81 the only GM borough today not in three figures.

Manchester also did well on 247 - down 69 on day and 11 week to week.

Everybody else was up week to week. By numbers ranging from 8 for Oldham to 38 for Salford - on 177 the highest bar Manchester today.

Stockport had a better day and actually clawed a few Pop Score points back from Trafford.

On 161 down 60 on the day - but up 22 on last week still.

Tameside - whatever Zoe App says - nowhere near as low as they have it and easily the worst today with the biggest Pop Score rise of 77. And at 175 cases (up 26 week to week) only 2 behind second top scorer and much bigger borough Salford.

There has been quite a bit of slagging off the experts for their over estimation of cases (100k) but as regards deaths a 100 per day was in fact predicted by many of them.

Sadly it would have been very hard to avoid 100 deaths a day given the case numbers we have had much of this Summer. Even factoring in the much lower mortality rate thanks to the vaccines which has reduced them from many hundreds if not four figures that they otherwise would have been.

Still a VOI as opposed to a VOC.

For anyone who's had covid can I just check something?

My mrs came down with a bug the other day. Sore throat, cough, runny nose, hot to touch but no temp. Currently ill with it but has done two lateral flows... both negative

I've started to come down with the same symptons apart from the runny nose but other than feeling a bit fatigued I feel fine (touch wood)

Are lateral flows accurate? I'd get myself tested but the mrs has done two negative ones which makes me think its just a usual cold/bug so I havent done one yet.

Cheers blues!

Schools back in England. Belt up tight. The last few weeks in Scotland have been the worst I have experience. 3 grandkids have caught it, two still have it. Son n law double jabbed but positive and still struggling with breathlessness. Many anecdotal examples of nasty breakthrough infection. Kids need to be vaccinated, schools are Petri dishes of infection. I think in a couple of weeks or so the decision makers will come to that conclusion, but as usual too late to avoid a world of disruption, hurt and illness.

GREATER MANCHESTER SCOREBOARD

BAR A SURPRISE TRAFFORD SET TO ENTER THE 12 K CLUB TOMORROW WITH STOCKPORT A DAY BEHIND

ROCHDALE 124 - UP 25 on day & UP 48 wk to wk - Pop Score up 56 - POP SCORE 14, 605.

BOLTON 119 - DOWN 6 on day & UP 24 wk to wk - Bolton Pop Score up 42 and joint lowest rise today. POP SCORE 14, 362

OLDHAM 111 - DOWN 13 on day & UP 8 wk to wk - Pop Score up 47 to be just 12 behind Manchester as highest GM pop score. POP SCORE 15, 115

BURY 81 - DOWN 16 on day & DOWN 11 wk to wk - best numbers in GM today. Pop Score up 42 level with Bolton for lowest today. POP SCORE 13, 987 - 14 K club beckons tomorrow

GM boroughs weekly past 7 day case totals:

Bury 574, Rochdale 585, Oldham 654, Bolton 717, Trafford 812, Salford 909. Wigan 986 , Tameside 1008, Stockport 1154, Manchester 1571

Stockport's numbers have put it as second to Manchester and the gap closed again today.

However, Tameside's worse numbers took it over the 1000 weekly cases today.

And Wigan almost made it too.

On a day of rises Bury's really good day saw it reclaim the lowest score lead from Rochdale.

GM WEEKLY POP SCORES

Remember low scores good - going down good - high scores bad - going up bad

BOROUGH // POP SCORE TODAY // POP SCORE LAST WEEK // UP OR DOWN BY LAST 7 DAYS

Also WAS 4 weeks ago (up/down in past month)

NB:- These are now versus the week when the population was readjusted so some of the 4 week old Pop scores are artificially low for the next few days on that 4 week old comparison. The other more recent data here is unaffected. And in a few days neither will the 4 week old data be.

OLDHAM 248 // 315 // DOWN 67 WAS 311 (down 63)

BOLTON 249 // 241 // UP 8 WAS 158 (up 91)

MANCHESTER 282 // 312 // DOWN 30 WAS 264 (up 18)

ROCHDALE 296 // 284 // UP 12 WAS 196 (Up 100)

WIGAN 298 // 283 // UP 15 WAS 152 (up 146)

BURY 301 // 289 // UP 12 WAS 326 ( Down 25)

TRAFFORD 342 // 333 // UP 9 WAS 279 (up 63)

SALFORD 346 // 386 // DOWN 40 WAS 181 (Up 165)

STOCKPORT 392 // 345 // UP 47 WAS 276 (up 116)

TAMESIDE 444 // 434 // UP 10 WAS 240 (Up 204)

Oldham and Bolton neck and neck now at the best end of this table.

Tameside is clearly in most trouble. But Stockport is close behind it and a gap has opened now to the rest.

These two neighbouring boroughs are the problem still in GM.

If they keep rising at this rate Stockport will top 400 in the next day or so - a very rare event here across the entire pandemic where Stockport has usually been where Bolton and Wigan are right now.

Thanks for taking time out of your stressful time to write Saddleworth2.
Surely England is aware of the problems in Scotland. If not why not, if so why no action?
Reminds me so much of when Italy and here in Spain were a few weeks ahead of UK RE particularly elderly being affected. They did not heed the warning then, seems your experiences may be similarly ignored.
Well done my friend, hope everything improves

Lateral flows are only accurate if you have NO symptoms. They drop quite a bit in accuracy if you have symptoms.
I'd get a PCR test if I was you.
34%-88% accurate when you have symptoms (77% ave). 98.8% accuracy (on average) when you have NO symptoms.
