You people are seriously losing the plot, I honestly think covid has driven some of you insane because you can't see how unacceptable this sort of thing is in a free society. It's ironic that you invoke world war 2 where millions died to preserve freedom, which surely includes the freedom to decide whether you get vaccinated or not.
The vaccinated can catch and transmit the virus. You seriously think people aren’t getting vaccinated because they’re waiting for a lottery prize? object to
You object to Healdplace mentioning WW2 and then go on to use (or misuse WW2) in your argument. I haven’t got a strong view either way on whether more pressure should be put on people to have the vaccine and maybe that pressure would be counter productive. One thing I’m pretty sure of is that peole didn’t dodge the war and had children fighting in their place and that’s effectively what the vaccine dodgers are doing. We wouldn’t need 12 year olds being vaccinated if all the adults had received the 2 jabs etc.You people are seriously losing the plot, I honestly think covid has driven some of you insane because you can't see how unacceptable this sort of thing is in a free society. As you are obviously a well qualified virologist or similar please enlighten us all as to why people aren't getting vaccinated. You people are seriously losing the plot, I honestly think covid has driven some of you insane because you can't see how unacceptable this sort of thing is in a free society. Personally I think the majority of those not getting vaccinated are those who dont see that they are at risk. "im a healthy 25 year old, why do i need it" sort of thing. A lottery or some other incentive could push them into "yeah ok then, I could win something". even a free pint may do it for some. You people are seriously losing the plot, I honestly think covid has driven some of you insane because you can't see how unacceptable this sort of thing is in a free society. It's good news, and gives part of the a route back to nromality but it isn't in widescale circulation yet and we have a difficult few months ahead. Try telling the families of the 1,000 people a day getting hospitalised or the 200 people a day who are dying that it's over.Wonderful. This thing is over. Too many are still far too concerned with it. We just need to crack on now really.

I agree that we are now on the last lap because of a combination of vaccination, people getting Covid and so getting immunity, and some of these new treatments. I wonder if those who have been refusing vaccines will now refuse to take the new Pfizer pills which could save their lives?Wonderful. This thing is over. Many people will have had covid so know they have a natural immunity, some will look at their age and health demographic and calculate the risk/reward doesn't favour vaccination, some will have seen that vaccination doesn't stop you catching and spreading covid, some will have religious objections, some have seen the reports of serious side effects, some will be concerned about the lack of long term safety data, and some will be put off by the threats and demonisation of the unvaccinated. As you are obviously a well qualified virologist or similar please enlighten us all as to why people aren't getting vaccinated.

Clearly that kind of fear is way over the top but there has to be some middle ground between that and the other end of the spectrum where people think 'it's over' and can do anything and everything exactly as it was before. You can be careful without hiding away or significantly impacting your life or the functioning of society (wearing masks in confined spaces, regular lateral flow tests etc.). There is a difference between 'over' and 'manageable'. The latter still requires sensible precautions. This is life sadly. People get ill and people die. Some will be very old and likely have passed due to flu, some anti-vaxxers. Doesn't make it right, no, but as a major public health issue, it's almost certainly very much on its last legs. Definitely not worth hiding indoors or obsessing over anymore. I know people who are young and healthy and vaccinated who are terrified of it still to the extent that they won't leave the house for anything. Not even a sibling's wedding. Nothing. It's hugely depressing when they have next to nowt to fear as a young a healthy bloke. Same for most people now mercifully.
You seem to have covered off all bases without being specific. Have you had one and if not which excuse from the list above are you using. BTW you forgot to use the 'not bothered about catching it because of my age / health / risk / reward / etc and passing on to older members of the family excuse'. And I am not sure that anyone can have any religious objections to the vaccine other than very very small denominations. There are over 5m people in the UK still unvaccinated, not sure many of them belong to the First Century Gospel Church.
