Coronavirus (2022) thread

Having the vaccine isn’t just about protecting yourself, it’s about protecting the wider population as well as yourself.

What the chances are of a person with healthy lungs becoming severely ill or dying from Covid is neither here nor there compared to there being less virus around. The more people are vaccinated, the less of the virus is multiplying in respiratory cells therefore there is ever decreasing amounts of the virus being spread and the people who it will affect the most will be more protected.

Masks are mostly about protecting others, as masks reduce the amount of droplets being breathed out into the air so in confined spaces other people are breathing in less of the virus from infected people.

Washing hands is also mainly about protecting others, as you are touching door handles and other things that the wider population will also touch with less virus on your hands therefore less of the virus is spread. Always with the thought of the person at the end of the chain who are most vulnerable to the virus.

This collective effort has been about the collective since the virus came around. It’s not about me or you, it’s about those who it will affect the most (and that’s not just with illness, but also with peoples’ livelihoods because the more of the virus is around, the more it affects businesses).
Agree. Would just add that hand washing is important for self protection as you can easily transfer virus from your hands to your face and thus into your interior via eyes, nose, mouth.

3 months is when the chances of contracting the virus starts to increase again. But antibodies last longer than that.
Yes, I think the protection from serious illness is about 85% when the booster first takes effect and it falls to about 36% over time. Work going on now searching for annual jab for high protection to last longer. Similar idea to annual flu jab, will be given to elderly and vulnerable.

You are correct,we have to do our bit, hence why I wear a face covering and take regular LFT's.
If the vaccine stopped an individual catching and/or spreading covid, and not simply reduced the chance, that would definitely carry more weight.
As it stands,I am happy with my choice.

It' a lot better than that. Doesn't fall below 80% for severe disease for as long as we have data.

439 all settings deaths - up just 1 from 438 last week. Affirming the data saying deaths seem to have peaked a few days ago.

England only 409 - up from 400 last week

Tuesday is always the peak day for deaths as weekend lack of registrations are mostly added.

Reasonably sure this will be the highest we may get.

94,326 cases - up from 88,447 yesterday but down by 106 in the week from 94,432.

England only 84,302 - down 685 on last week.

These have flattened off but the reason is BIG rises in 19 and unders due to school testing.

44% of all the past week testing positives in N Ireland were under 19. Under 6% were over 60.

This is why high cases are not translating much into deaths.

England hospital numbers are very good news again.

Patients down 475 to 14,088 - down 2130 from last Tuesday's 16,218

Every region has a healthy fall with the North West the biggest - down 206 to 2475 today

Ventilators also down yet again by 20 to just 501, Down from 614 last Tuesday. And from 797 three weeks ago today.

That is a remarkable fall in mid winter. It has not been lower than 501 since 15 July.

Again no region had an increase and only South East did not actually fall today. It stayed level on 37.

North West fell to 63.

Interesting report at how being vaccinated and catching covid, either before or after vaccination, gives super immunity.

I read recently that Pfizer are preparing to launch a vaccine dedicated to Omn which is due in March, is this what you think will be available?

Honestly the world was such a better place before fucking social media.
Social Media has provided a public platform for so many of those people who used to be the crackpots in the pub you would avoid or the loons you always used to sit next to on the bus. It is alarming how many disturbed people there are out there.
