Coronavirus (2022) thread

The vaccines are indeed a huge testement to how the world can work together to solve a doomsday scenario.

Now all we have to do is get on with vaccinating all the countries that cannot afford to do so or will not unless pushed.

And then put the same forces fr good together to try to resolve the other crises we still face.

Such as climate change. Where all the same issues - national avarice and a huge range of cultural and governing systems make coordination so hard. Despite it being the same problem for every person on Earth irrepective of where they live. Or how they live.

We have shown we can work together in face of adversity. Now we must not let this just be a Captain Tom moment rapidly forgotten and even abused by the Twitterati. It has to be a starting point for humanity to BE much nore of a global caretaker than an indivudual abuser of the things our survival depends upon,

Wanted to share some good news on data:-

Wales (13), Northern Ireland (13), Scotland (29) and England (449)

These are the number of patients on ventilators in each country.

The falls in Wales and N Ireland this week have matched England and Scotland's head start on doing the same.

All four nations now have as few people on ventilators as they did in mid July last year.

Visble proof of how much less serious Omicron is V prior variants and why it is causing fewer deaths. Not getting into the lungs anything like it did before. Because of better treatments, the vaccine programme and the lower threat of Omicron - all working in the same direction.

This day last year here were the ventilator numbers

Wales (113), Northern Ireland (58), Scotland (140) and England (3324)

On the day last year of those ventilated patients - going 7 days earlier to allow for lag from case to patient - there had been in the UK 20,089 cases recorded.

7 days ago v todays ventilator numbers this year there were 102,292 cases

5 times as many cases as you can see led to MANY times fewer ventilated even allowing for more and better testing a year on.

Roll on the spring and summer

Roll on the spring and summer
Soon be here. Hard to believe it is February already. Or that is just me getting so old the years fly by faster due to the percentage effect. As in psychologically the older you are the shorter each day feels as a percentage of your memories.

Mind boggling numbers!
I have posted before, I was requested to collect about 200 boxes of PPE during the first wave. It was from a car dealership in Blackburn and was imported from Malaysia on a Virgin plane.

Then took it to a Games (computer) Distributor in Dukinfield, stickers removed and different paperwork picked. From there, we took to Chester and Wales, the second site asked us to load it direct on to their Van which was taking it to a medical distribution company in the South where hopefully it would have found it’s way to the NHS

Expenses/Cost/Profit

Malaysian Exporter
Virgin
Car Dealership in Blackburn
Games Company in Dukinfield
Distributor in Chester/Wales
The above’s Customer in the South
My transport costs

Should have been Malaysia direct to the NHS or even Malaysia to one distribution hub then onto the NHS.

We did quite a few of these journeys but struggled to get paid so fucked them off, seemingly billions pissed away.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing but this was there for all to see. A real, live, Diamond Princess moment. We all saw it unfold, on here. We were watching.
A big thank you has to go out to the South African medical community for immediately alerting the world to this.
It's proving to be the sneeze that may have saved the world.

That 2nd tweet in his thread is absolutely brutal and should really lead to people on SAGE either quitting, or being moved on. Time to get rid of the clearly politically motivated people that we keep rolling out. Imagine we took their advice and shut everything down over Xmas.

Imagine if we refused to take their advice in march 2020....
