Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

There should not be a ball kicked in the Premier League until it is safe for the fans to be present. End of.
Pretty sure next season in most countries will start next season without fans, some countries will finish this season the same way, some won’t so it’s going to happen sooner or later. Not ideal but none of this is , just something we’ll have to live with.

I'm confused. Bundesliga restarts and yep face masks, social distancing and spraying the ball all present and then the game starts.

No face masks.
No social distancing.
Both teams heading the same ball.
Both tackling each other.
Contact at corners.

I'm just trying to work out the flaw in all of this, something isn't adding up!!

No it's not. If we start next season behind closed doors, the whole season should be behind closed doors
In practice that is how it should be. But with some clubs already struggling financially, its very unlikely to happen.

Not much money sloshing around in Scotland though is there.

You watch the about turn by the premier league, in a heartbeat the season will end and this happening in Scotland will push it.
No there's not, all the reason for them not to cancel the PL. They're all in it together, even though Scotland's league isn't worth much their govt has obviously seen sense and told them it's not advisable.

And no ones mentioned the queueing up system there going to implement prior to kick off or will it be down to ‘pre match experience’.
How many unqualified staff members will be waving various electronic implements at us ?

There is a vocal proportion of people on here that somehow welcome a perceived 'reset' of top level football due to the Covid-19 epidemic. They are disgusted with what football has become and many are saying they won't be coming back even when fans are allowed back in stadiums.

I'm interested in knowing how prevalent this view is as I don't share it and I don't anyone that does either. Having been a match going supporter for almost 60 years I have seen huge changes in football but mostly I would say for the better. Modern stadia, the elimination of mass hooliganism and the welcoming of family groups for starters. I couldn't give a rats arse what players earn for example but that seems to be a source of angst for some. Football isn't responsible for creating Covid-19 & it has no more responsibility for defeating it than any other business.

I can't wait to be back in my seat watching live football.
I agree 100 per cent with this. This crisis is not City's fault and I am not giving up on football after 50 plus years. I don't like the idea of playing in empty stadiums any more than anyone else but there will come a point in this country when this disease is under control and at that point I will accept it.
At the current time the alternative is no football at all. It is likely it will be at least 18 months before fans can attend games and a period of time that long will destroy the fitness of a lot of our world-class players.
It's a personal choice for everyone and I respect the opinion of those fans who have just had enough of football and especially the culture of greed. But that culture of greed (and corruption) has been prevalent in football for a long time. In fact it was probably there in the 60s and 70s but on a smaller scale. I can't wait to get back to watching City live.

Ok just playing devil's advocate. We null and void this season. We start next season in September. Still no fans allowed. Early doors we draw at home to the dippers and United. Come Christmas time, all is good, the full country have been vaccinated. So we can start letting fans back in the ground. Problem now is we have 2 tough away games in front of there fans. Is that fair ?
We know that is a possible scenario from day one, so yes it's fair.
