Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

UEFA boast in their annual benchmarking report that although debt has increased it is manageable as income as increased. I wonder if this situation becomes prolonged will it still be manageable?

rags with 500 mil debt, huge fixed overheads and no money coming in, could be problematic for them!! Wouldn't be surprised if we were financially stable but up for a 2 year ban. While everyone else was going bump around us!! There would be a certain irony in it, god bless UEFA!!

You can’t reduce the league games so it’s a no from me.

Exactly... someone will say they’ve played more games against higher ranking teams and unless everyone players everyone home and away then the league cannot be concluded. I struggle with the utter bollocks being quoted by pundits.... the meeting this week at the FA should NOT be hijacked by the Dippers - this is NOT just about them... it might be about the very future of the game and the survival of some of the clubs.

Try telling that to their supporters .

FFP will have to get kicked into touch for the next few years I think. Clubs will be pleading with the authorities to see if their owners can prop their teams up. Clubs will no doubt go bust without any help. Salaries will need to be paid etc and with no matchday income coming in what do they do? UEFA don’t have enough cash to save everyone and neither does the PL

That is a sad thought - Im currently overcome with grief at the prospect .

PS Luckily the g14 clubs will come to the rescue of less fortunate clubs as they have the best wishes of everybody at the forefront of their objective and responsibilty .

It rather depends on when football resumes. If it’s in the autumn then I agree. No point in having two ruined seasons. There’d have to be some sort of close season at the end of the 19/20 season which would drive fans mad. Draw a line under 19/20, one way or the other, and start 20/21 with great fanfare.

But what if football can’t resume until early 2021? That seems to be a serious possibility now. There just wouldn’t be time to have a meaningful season. Better to finish this season off instead. There would still be the problem of a second break shortly afterwards, but the rescheduled Euros would go some way to filling that gap.

The problem of course would be that such a decision couldn’t be made for several months. So it would mean keeping everyone on tenterhooks over the outcome of this season. Could fans of other clubs cope with that uncertainty?
