Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

UEFA are exploring the possibility of completing this season's Champions League and Europa League competitions in a three-week block this August

@DExpress_Sport

Sky Sports will not demand to be repaid the £371 million they are owed by the Premier League, if the current season is cancelled. Talks are ongoing to find an alternative way to make good any lost value in the event that the campaign cannot be finished

@MailSport

English football officials are stepping up their efforts to restart matches in June, after being informed by the UK government that they may not be able to open their stadiums to fans for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

First tweet is especially interesting. Could absolutely see them getting rid of 3pm blackout as payment.

Not really interesting, it's yet another nothing tweet, "exploring the possibility" . It isn't going to happen.

Sorry, I meant tweet 2. Don't really care about the CL at this point, but broadcasters would be desperate to get more games so could totally see the packages being expanded to "pay" this season off.

The amount of ideas floated by the different organisations and the press to get their competitions finished are only matched by Uniteds transfer targets that feature daily
The one thing they have in common is 99% of them are bullshit

Can’t see any football here in June but think it’s highly likely the 3pm blackout goes after this.

I’ve been thinking... that IF this season is made null and void what happens to Boston who were deducted points at the start of the season? Will they start on a level playing field? What about Macclesfield who were deducted points halfway through the season.
And what about Bury. Will they be given the opportunity to start again?
Bury couldn’t start again even if they were let back in as they don’t have any money

I've spoken with 2 NHS people, one on the " coal face" right now and the other in a very senior position.
If what they both say is correct, don't expect any football in the UK this side of September.
There is a reasonable chance, nothing this year, despite the best endeavours of the fuckwits within UEFA, EFL etc.

Have they signed wesley Sneijder yet ?

Absolutely but a large majority of certain fans of certain clubs lap it up ..
