Corruption in English football?

Seems our friends from RAWK are of the same view. Lot's of outrage on there about United and decisions against Liverpool in general :) ;)

"We're not unbiased and impartial, right? But the funny thing is that we are all, more or less, in agreement that all this shit is happening, that the other "top" sides (and United in particular) are getting these decisions all over the park, and that the processes are different for us and them - e.g. VAR taking an eternity to make a decision against us, okaying a decision in their favor in no time at all, etc.

The only thing we are really in disagreement about on here is the idea of corruption - the definition of it and whether or not it is present. I mean, there is a handful of posters who are in love with the concept of objectivity and phlegmatic to a fault, but by and large the preponderance of evidence is so massive at this point that there can be no question that we are seeing clearly, despite our bias.

So I guess what I am saying is - what the fuck is going on?"

Is corruption becoming more obvious or is it just supporters moaning about their team not winning. Last night's penalty given to Pogba seems a good as any place to start. Are referees involved in some sort of game control to fix matches. Why were no premier league referees invited to the last major tournament. I would love to hear from anyone who has proof of corruption not just hearsay.

These people are businessmen. They are not idiots. "Proof" in the form of unequivocal evidence may therefore be difficult to find. The impact of COVID-19 has probably increased their desperation and led to them being a little less circumspect than they might otherwise have been.

Instinct, however, is another thing - eg last nights rag penalty decision. Given in real time with no way to review what happened - well perhaps you could understand the decision. But VAR reviewed and then still given? Wow.

And instinct tells me that there are moves afoot to ensure that whichever outcome delivers the highest revenues (eg a "successful" rags and a Cash Cow<>Cash Cow "rivalry") is the one that will prevail. This season and for many more to come.

And here is another one from RAWK :0 :)

I think, by and large, decisions that go against us have always been met with sniggering or out and out laughter by fans of other clubs, pundits and journos. If not laughter then at least excused. When was the last time you remember anyone saying “that’s cost them the game” about a decision against us? Even by supposedly “red” pundits. It’s usually “you can’t blame the refs for dropping points” when it comes to us, but compare that to the outrage/condemnation when certain other teams are fucked over.

People have said that we’re too nice. I don’t think it’s the club or even the fans, we just don’t have many/any cheerleaders in the media. The only one we really had was Thompson, but when he used to point out stuff that went against us those gurning simpletons on that awful Sky program used to put on fake laughs and tell him he was cracking up. They’d then go into moan about a much less significant decision that went against their club.

It all goes to making refs feel a bit safer about giving the marginal decisions against us. They know they won’t come under much scrutiny, 5 seconds on it with a smirking Gary Lineker will be all the attention it gets.

It’s got worse since we became champions, we had a few people with us last year as “breaking the 30 year hoodoo” was a big story. Be under no illusions that the next thing they want to push is “it might be 30 years till they win it again if they keep drawing/losing these types of games”.

This season Liverpool have had a mixture of decisions, prior to this season they got everything but now, they have lost points in games where VAR hasn’t done its job.

They’ve obviously decided to now help the Rags get there. Even Championship fans are gobsmacked about the decisions they’re getting.

A rag in a stag group chat I’m in was laughing about how “lucky” they are.

Everyone can see it.

A director at work who supports Preston thinks it’s subconscious bias in their favour, that referees favour them without realising because of who they are and now they’ve got a chance.

I think it’s rigged.

Either that person is completely delusional or I am.

We might benefit from this latest farce on Wednesday I expect rags will have negotiated a deal to sacrifice the league cup for a share of the EPL, if only to distract and undermine the case for the humble and fair amongst us
Nah, when you are on the wrong side of the law, you feel the need to steal everything out of the bank
