Cost of living crisis - how are you all doing?

Not saying your wrong but isn't that little island crowded enough already?
Traffic is terrible and what about seeing a doctor and the NHS hospitals waiting lists.
Isn't there just too many people?
No, there aren’t enough doctors and infrastructure and the NHS has been crippled by a decade of austerity.

We are an aging population that needs migration to fill the jobs that younger people naturally do alongside help in care homes etc.

Unless you want to go into the care industry there isnt really that many jobs out there.

My son who is 22, came back from travelling in march and was applying for dozens upon dozens of low pay jobs and not even getting a response, if the odd one did get in touch he would found out literally hundreds had applied. Hes educated to degree level.

He eventually took work with a landscaping company on a zero hour contract with no holiday/sick pay. If it rained, no work/no pay. Id there was a gap between jobs, no work/no pay.

After 3 months and still applying ferociously for other jobs he got a job at the airport in retail.

Dont believe the bull shit there is millions of jobs. There isnt.

Whilst working in care is an admirable and noble occupation, its not for everyone. Neither is picking fruit.

What do you do?

And add to that the people who come over are working age and will be older before long, kicking the problem into the long grass for 30 years. So we will have more older people needing to be looked after by more people coming over.

We are also taking people from other countries who need them to look after their older people, older people are working longer who's factoring that in to the equation?

I was a civil servant up until I gave it up to look after my Grandma. It’s been 9 years so far and she’s now 96. I didn’t expect her to go on so long.

I made some investments that allowed me to do that. I’ll get back into work when she dies.

I do some voluntary work with Fairshare and help some of the elderly in our area with shopping and spending some time with the isolated.

The care homes I visit are always changing staff and are generally understaffed. This is more a choice of the home owners, who siphon off as much money as they can whilst providing the minimum care required.

Jobs are more scarce because businesses are failing as the cost of utilities and rates rise.

The country needs a proper discussion around a recalibration of society and for people to look out for each other more.

I was made redundant from the Courts in April and my phone rang relentlessly with work. I must have had ten interviews and three offers.

Maybe it’s because Merseyside scrubbers don’t want to work but there are job vacancies everywhere I guarantee are now no longer filled by migrant workers who’ve headed back to their homelands.

I had a camera up my backside the other week and about half of the floor staff at Arrowe Park Hospital appeared to be immigrants. Chinese, Indian, African etc.

I struggle with these times , getting the second bit of money from the cost of living payment sceme which will go towards energy costs this winter

The debate has been migration is required to fill the jobs that our aging population cant fill. Those jobs arent there. Unless you want to work in care , which very much isnt for everyone.

What industry were you getting these job offers from?

Migration and immigration are very much required in sectors where its needed. Nhs seemingly has big gaps.
But it shouldnt be at the loss of jobs to young people born n bred here

I bet a large sum that the people who think others should not have kids (unless they are rich) are the very same ones who hate immigration the most.

We are not replacing ourselves, and haven't for many years. That is one reason why immigration is necessary and in high numbers. Choose your poison, you can't have it both ways.
We're all immigrants. Except the Welsh. Oh and the Cornish.

With all due respect, if he's university educated why is he looking for low paid jobs and perhaps he's over qualified for the jobs he's going for. Both my daughters are uni educated and likewise done the travelling thing and neither has a job in their chosen course yet they seem to have no trouble getting new or better paid employment. Does he have confidance in his own abilities......
