Cost of living impact on football

Never understood why anyone buys the crap beer & food in the stadium or at city Square .
I do and it's because I meet up with 3 of my friends before the game and we all come from different directions and diff combinations of car / metrolink / train so City Square is the ideal place to meet. It's more about the social aspect rather than the quality (errrrrr) of the piss in the paper cups.

I eat before I go to the game, if I am thirsty I just grab a can of coke or bottle of water. Going to watch the game is the important thing not having a gastronomical experience.

I suspect, right or wrong, that the majority of regular match going fans either won't be the hardest hit this winter or City is so important to them that they'll make the sacrifices elsewhere.

My sense is that this current/coming cost of living crisis is probably the worst squeeze on disposable income since football became relatively expensive. It'll be interesting to see what the real foc's on here think, but thinking back to late 70s/80's hard times going to a top division match was a lot more affordable (relatively). Mind you, that might be because my dad was paying:-)

Miss some games each season thru work, travel costs etc and been the same for years eg when living in London. Will adapt given this team and manager right now are unmatched on and off the pitch.
Season ticket is still great value , food and drink easily swerved.
Mind the gap, man u.

Strangely the world cup timing may be a blessing for some, nov/dec the fuel inccreases will his 6 weeks not shelling out on going to football before christmas will save.some.match goers money.

As for the crisis itself, many home games will be in and out jobs, not all day sessions and aways and euro aways will be judged on travel cost and whether it is really a necessity to go.

Without wanting to sound like a smart arse, I'm not having a "cost of living" problem personally.
For a City fan that does come across as smart arse or shall we say un empathetic!, ask the chauffeur about the record petrol pump speeds or anyone with young kids re most cost matters . Our local curry house owner the true barometer is worried pre winter .
