Costel Pantilimon

Ask yourselves this. Which keeper do you feel at ease with when you see the line up ? I know for me theres less likely to be a rash decision from Pantilimon and his distribution seems to be less erratic. Love Joe but we cant afford any calamities at the back. Not sure what the long term answer is and its something Pellers will have to think long and hard about.

Yet again this absolute tripe regarding distribution.

The FACTS are that CP's distribution is absolutely abysmal and for some unholy reason a loud minority have decided to perpetuate this MYTH that somehow his kicking/throwing etc is 'superior' to Hart's. IT ISN'T. In fact it is vastly inferior in every possible way. It is one of the worst and most uncomfortable aspects of Pantilimon's game.

Joe Hart deserved to be dropped a few weeks ago. His mistakes this season have cost us points. His game can be dissected and his strengths / weaknesses debated. This particular stick that his detractors have decided to use though is so laughably false, so unbelievably untrue, that it is quite incredible how many people have been taken in.

I am finding difficulty in reconciling your comments about Costels distribution with what I've witnessed on the field of play.

That said accepting that his distribution is erratic surely you are not suggesting Hart's is superior? Hart is a good goal keeper of that there is no doubt, but I do question (not withstanding his performances in our Premiership winning side) whether he is world class which is what he needs to be to play for City. Costel has not proven himself at this level yet either but he does seem to be more reliable.

I think the back four seem a lot more at ease with Costel behind them and have no issues playing the ball back to him.

Anyway for me it's Costel until he fouls up, would be unfair to have it any other way.

Hart's pass completion in the league this season is 49.7%. Pantilimon's is 61.9%. Pantilimon makes more passes per game than Hart (18.8 to 16.3) and plays more accurate long passes per game than Hart (4.5 to 3.8).

And Tottenham had more possession than City a few weeks ago.

The moral of the story...stats are by and large a nonsense. Especially the ones that you've so lovingly quoted.
So which facts are you talking about that prove Hart's distribution is better?

He has done very little wrong to date. A few scooped and scuffed clearances but otherwise very good. he handled the one on one against Saints well

I'm a big Hart fan, but have no qualms about Pantilimon playing at the moment. He's been given his chance and has taken it.

But I agree that his distribution is massively overrated. Where he's good is at throwing the ball out quickly and accurately - better than Hart, I would say. What let's him down is his kicking - barely able to reach the halfway line with goal kicks, backpasses etc., and that puts us under pressure at time.

Costel has impressed me a lot, he's just so cool and collected he radiates calmness. Doesn't make me nervous like Joe did several times a game of late. Hope Joe has a good game v bayern too

Stats aren't a nonsense, nor are they in this case qualitative, nor do they make any kind of judgment. They are simply a record of what happened. Spurs had more possession than City. That isn't an assessment of which team was 'better', that's just what happened.

A significantly higher percentage of Pantilimon's passes find a team mate than Hart's. That is a fact. It can interpreted any way you wish, but it is true.

Bottom line is ,the best keeper gets the first choice jersey and it's not Joe. I can see him being replaced,he's not a top keeper and probably not the future, quite simple !

Costel is going to be the next big thing in The football world (excuse the pun). His general ability to concentrate for 90 and avoid simple mistakes is leaps and bounds better than joes. Joe May be England's number one but I say Costel is the man to watch out for, we will be luck if we keep hold of him with the likes of barca and Madrid on the prowl during January.
