Could this Season's "Failure" be Attributable to Bad Luck?

Although, the change in mood on here seems to suggest it ain't all over just yet...

It IS all over , Noah .......

last night was a tremendous result for City , and certainly lifted our mood , but it only made a marginal difference to the table , because we are so far behind at the worst possible time ..... United only have to achieve three more wins , and they will do that , you can bet your council tax on it !

For us to win it now it would take the biggest title collapse of all time , coupled with the greatest comeback ...... in short , it would take a miracle!

Cabaye: Manchester City does not play as a team
Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye believes Manchester City 's lack of cohesion has cost them the Premier League title.

This was published the day before Newcastle were pumped 4-0 by City going on 8. And they were lucky to get nil!

I was on the train as far as York after the match with a load of drunken Newcastle fans. They were not complimentary about the team spirit within the Newcastle team that day.

This City do not play as a team is a tired old cliche from Rag journalists. As Mancini said, the problem was the failure by Marwood to sign any of his priority targets. He asked for Hazard and we got Sinclair. He asked for Van Persie and we got no-one, etc, etc.

Bad luck in the PL, probably no. Having said that United have had a remarkable run of wins for such a mediocre team.

In the CL, yes given that City had two eventual semi-finalists in their group.

Re: Could this Season's "Failure" be Attributable to Bad Luck?

The line between success and everything else is so fine now.

It wasn't improbable that we should have won the home derby, gap today 6 points.

We've lost a game or two when we just didn't have it and 1 or 2 key players were missing.

United have won a game or two when they had no right too.

Result = 12 points.

No great inquisition needed, just a bit more focus, less mistakes, a bit more experience (players & manager), less critical injuries, no African nations ! And a bit of transfer strengthening and we're good to go.

IMHO

There's no such thing as luck. It's as made up as destiny, magic or fate.

So if I flipped a coin and got 10 heads in a row, it wouldn't be lucky? (or unlucky, if I was trying to get tails...)

Caveman's right

Coin flip wise, each flip is an individual event - what went before is irrelevant.

Stay outta Vegas man

I can't accept United have been the best team this season, even if they win the title. City have been better, and it showed on Monday. Luck always plays a part in success or failure, but other factors such as fixture congestion, no winter break, 20 teams in the league, 5 yellows = 1 game ban, etc, all help determine who will win the League, and these don't always help the best team win. Refereeing errors can cause havoc, just look at United's away wins over Liverpool and Chelsea. I think we've been very unlucky, League wise this season.

I don't think we have been good enough. We have lacked the ruthlessness that united possess. I think we have been fairly unlucky with injuries but that is no excuse. United have been the better team this season and deserve the title.

Also we should have made a better effort to strengthen the squad last summer but in reality it was weakened. Also playing that suicidal back three crap didn't help I sincerely hope that tactic has gone out the window for good. Our injuries are no worse than any other team but our squad isn't as large as United's or Chelsea's, this has to be sorted in the summer window, two like for like players for each position is the Utopia and whether we get that or not we'll have to see, we certainly have it in certain positions thats for sure. However there are certain players who we haven't got a replacement for, Yaya, Vinny, Silva, and the Mario money hasn't been invested in the team yet. I expect a big summer and next season for us to kick on, but one thing is for sure the top two next season will be us and the rags again!!

If Mourinho comes back to Chelsea he'll have big bucks to spend and that makes it a 3 way fight for the title next year.

Or if Mourinho goes to the rags it will stay a two way fight, or if he comes to us, it will still be a two way fight but only just we'll piss it. Or he goes to Chelski and baconface retires probably a two way fight between us and Chelsea. A lot of ifs there, as it stands Us and the rags are by far the best two teams in the league......but I get your point!!
