The 'Away' pub was a big boozer called the Mercers Arms which was right next to the ground. Used to be rocking in there

One of my first away games was the 1-0 win 1991-92 season when Quiny scored and made his debut, also went the year we were 2-0 down (Mick Quinn) and won 3-2 down and got drenched.

No issue with the club or its fans.

Quinny meaning Niall? if so he made his debut in 1990 in a one all draw v chelsea at maine road Quinn equalised after durie opened the scoring

I was supposed to put Keith Curle between and/made debut. Think the Chelsea game was midweek under the lights?

Vague memories of my times at Highfield Road in the 80's. You had to drink to enjoy it. I do remember not drinking one New Years Eve (my birthday) as I had promised to take my young daughter to Coventry the following day for the New Years Day game. I remember driving away from the ground and the car in front had Moonchester's Head on the back seat and it was looking at us through the back window and my young daughter loved it.

Always have a soft spot for Coventry from the Quarter-final replay of the 1973/74 League Cup at a drenched Maine Road, Wednesday 16th January 1974.The first game finished 2-2 at Highfield Road. The game was played on a Wednesday afternoon due to the three-day week and I remember coming home from school at dinner time and my dad saying get your scarf you're not going back to school we're going to see the match. The following days headlines were 'Maine Road's Muddy Marvels' and it became the name I always used for my fantasy football teams.

It became my all time favourite City game as a young boy just edging out the 4-0 Middlesbrough semi Final.

Nice rendition of "YNWA" in the back ground

remember the time they invaded the main stand? c**ts!
I remember that, think it was a cup game and we scored a late goal, there was a bit(used to have the police look out/video stuff) between the north stand where they were and the main stand,i think it was full of kids and older people and they waded in,think the Coventry firm was called "the legion,or legionaires

Invading the Main Stand is a bit like a 5th year 6ft 11st school bully starting on a sweaty 6st 1st year.

Laughable

Yes it was, the goat scored in the last minute.
Still remember their keeper (blonde hair) shitting himself when city fans from the kippax and the north stand ran past him to get to the Coventry fans.
Also remember that Coventry fans got locked in at the end and when I walked round from my seat in the north stand, city fans had made a big semi-circle around the whole of the away end waiting for them to step out.

There's an ex bouncer from Coventry called Geoff Thompson who writes about his time working the doors there in the 80's,his first called 'Watch my back' a cracking read.

He also writes motivational / lifestyle books which my mate lent me when I was struggling a bit with my job a few years back, very good and helped me get things sorted in my mind.

Re Cov fans never had any trouble other than when they came in the Main Stand but all the hot coffee from the flasks soon saw them running.

Met some in Barcelona when we played Everton on our way to the Title(on a stag do)and they were great lads, all Asians and big buggers, they really supported us well that day.

Well; they kicked up a big stink about being in exile from their home town, and were vociferous in wanting to get back to Coventry. And they got their wish. Watching them now on Sky against Swindon and the turnout is piss poor, considering the (potential) league leaders are the opponents. So much for backing their club/team. The owners must be wondering why they bothered.
