COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I went to Tesco at 06:00 today as I need to try and protect SWMBO by avoiding this virus as she is on the vulnerable list... it was like the worst episode of supermarket sweep you can imagine ( I know it's bad anyway). I saw a wide variety of masks and most people keeping their distance but there was still the odd one not giving a fuck and ignoring the spacing rules...
How busy was it at that time?

I'm not sure trains of thought is the right terminology for those. The first one and it being transferred from animal to human has been backed up by every science lab worldwide who have studied the genetic code. The other two are conspiracy theorists on the internet.
The 2nd one is definitely a conspiracy theory (albeit most probably wrong), the 3rd one is just idiocy.

You'll have to be more specific, I'm afraid, as I don't understand your question.
The antibody tests tell you if you've been exposed by judging if you've developed antibodies against it. I don't know what other test for the virus you mean.
A test for the virus's RNA. An antibody test is very useful but it's fundamentally different to a test for the virus.

What do you think the tests we've been doing that take days for labs to turn around do? That's PCR testing and it takes ages. Healthworkers can't even find out if they have got it. It's resource and time intensive.

If we had a fast reliable test for the virus it would make a massive difference

That can’t be @SWP's back place, he only subscribes to ‘Asian Babes’!

haven’t they eaten bats for hundreds of years ? Why is it just now they have a problem ?

this isn’t opposing view I just not very up to speed with it
The world is far more connected now than hitherto. Plenty of these mutations could have withered on the vine in enclosed communities previously.

Not too busy but there were more people than I expected... they are opening later at 08:00 from Monday.

I can use the NHS early opening slot as SWMBO is on the vulnerable list but I think that might be worse in terms of risk

We heard that anybody with a letter can soon access deliveries.. they are booked up for weeks for mere mortals

Fire service to deliver food, move bodies and drive ambulances, I’m up for that I’ve got 14 days off now and they won’t let me work as a firefighter so I’ll do this instead, better than been couped up.
On another note one of the lads finished work this morning queued up at Tesco for 20 mins got to front of the line and they said pensioners only for the next 30 mins, oh how I laughed ha ha

It's not just now. The entire tree of life are interconnected by horizontal gene transfer.

I'm a pensioner... have been since I left the RAF in 2006 but not sure mine counts :-)

I always love the word “misunderstanding” in these types of apologies.

You’ve just been caught out being a giant **** you fat ****.
Our boss is displaying this " misunderstanding" at the moment. Anyone who says that we should be self isolating because our work isn't essential to anyone gets told, "fuck off home then, you won't be getting paid and you'll be disciplined."

Birmingham has been consistently quiet all week. Walked the mile or so into town alone yesterday, mid-afternoon, as my exercise, and it was about as busy with pedestrians as when I make the same journey at 5am to get the first train to Euston in ‘normal’ times, possibly marginally busier. Not quite ‘I am Legend’, but still discernibly quiet. Only a smattering of cars on the road. The trams and buses were running though, although mainly empty. Only a couple of bargain basement takeaways (Pepe’s, Dixy Chicken) were open, all the others I saw were shut. The mini-supermarkets I saw (Tesco x2 and Sainsbury’s ) were observing social distancing far more rigorously than the previous week. Every other retail operation was shut. Some of the usual homeless were dotted around on their familiar spots. Didn’t see anyone walking in pairs or more. I would say, based on what I saw, that the government advice was being pretty strictly adhered to.
Did you see the tripods in the distance?
And did you spot any red weed?

My view in these types of situation is you judge people by their first instincts. I’m normally one for forgiving and forgetting when someone apologises, but I’m much less so inclined when someone seeks to exploit a crisis, as Ashley indubitably did.
Beautiful use of the word "indubitably" there GDM. Can we have our daily fix of "egregious" and "sententious" soon so I can crack on with a bit of work? Ta.

Just been down to Asda with the missus,as I stay in the car until she`s finished. The queue was more than 150 yards long but at least they were giving each other a good 6 feet distance.Suffice to say I came home and the missus will phone when ready.
She`ll probably be 90 minutes in the queue but only 10 minutes in Asda.
