COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Nice interview with an anaesthetist in Turin (which is not Lombardy) from yesterday, might be mildly interesting. He speaks calmly and I'd say he's not particularly panic-inducing.

Meanwhile......

You couldn't make it up...

If all scientists were created equal, it would be a bit pointless wouldn't it?
-Anthony Costello, a UK paediatrician and former director of the World Health Organization (WHO), said he had personally written to the chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty, asking for testing to continue in the community.
-Devi Sridhar, professor of global public health at The University of Edinburgh
-Immunologists, in a separate open letter, said they had “significant questions” about the government’s apparent strategy
-Behavioural scientists joined the concern, saying they believed the government should immediately bring in social distancing measures

A lot of specialists don't agree with it, a lot do. The point is, you can't just blindly listen to everything you're being told IMHO and need to see both sides, then make the best decision for yourself, while remembering how it will also affect everyone due to the nature of the virus.
Correct, there is a scientific consensus about most but not all aspects of the pandemic and we are all entitled to our opinion. As a non-expert mine is we should follow the best advice available from those who are - in a multidisciplinary context - as the government is doing.

What's your problem with believing this country's top medical and scientific experts? What is it you think they are lying about?
I think you are confused George.

I was agreeing with them on this. I thought you were not, which seems a bit ironic.

Let me reiterate. They said 5 to 10 thousand infected on Thursday which means around 20,000 this morning, according to our own experts. Are you disagreeing with them? Or not?

Just heard a top professor on TV (he is Director of the National Institute for Health Research Health Protection) saying that the virus will come back in the winter. If we all catch it now and for most it will be mild or not noticeable at all (look what Arteta's wife said) then immunity builds up. If however we isolate everyone and it comes back then we will have a similar state of panic to what we now have. He admitted it's a delicate balancing act as to what is the right thing to do but it's important that the vulnerable who it will hit the hardest are looked after.
If 40m catch it over the next 12 months, that’s 4 to 6m people being hospitalised.

Even at the low end, that 333,000 every month.

How does the NHS cope with that?

I have about 10 days supply of nappies for my little lad and can’t find any anywhere so far today. Onto my 5th shop soon. Things are going to get messy...
When my 3 were little (not that long ago) we used washable nappies. If you get stuck, cut up some old towels and line them with dried out babywipes. You can learn how to fold nappies from Youtube. Not ideal for you but better than nothing....which really would get messy !

I am confused why a formerly rational poster has apparently taken leave of his senses. Doubling every 5 days not 3 btw.
