The thing that's puzzling is that Witty kept saying today that we need to do everything we can to stop the numbers needing ICU treatment below the NHS' ICU capacity. And yet we have still have not shut pubs, restaurants and bars in London, or the underground or trains or airports.

He must either by lying through his face, knowing full well that we have no chance, and not caring that our lack of total clamp down will cause countless - many thousands of - extra deaths. This would seem unlikely for a medical man to be so cavalier and uncaring.

Or, he genuinely believes it's all under control and that we are doing enough. Which also seems ridiculously implausible given our limited NHS resources and the spiralling case numbers.

Puzzling.

Witty and Vallance calmed me in the early days. Their supposed expertise was reassuring. But as the days have gone on, it’s become worryingly clear that they are inept. I won’t have anybody tell me any different. What they are advising the government do (or not do) is negligent.

It’s worth remembering as it stands right now, your chances of even getting it are extremely low. If you do get it then your chances of being very ill are low. If you get it and are very ill then your chances of dying are low.

All of that remaining the case is dependent on all of our actions though. It is our behaviours as a society now that will dictate whether the overall cases stay in the tens to hundreds of thousands (and so either less or considerably less than a 1 in 50 chance of getting it) or not.

The issue now is one of how best to influence behaviour to make sure that either stays the same or reduces. People have to isolate and treat every outside source and object as potentially contaminated. If we all do that (and stricter measures will come to enforce us doing it) then the vast majority will be fine.

We are screwed economically, as is everyone. That is recoverable though. Life isn’t.

I think people are forgetting a lot of the groundwork can be skipped nowadays in terms of trials. It’s the mass production (and let’s get honest, the money) that’s the issue.

The SARS outbreak infected 8000 bud and killed under 500, some scientists talk shit, this is a true pandemic, Italy had as many deaths in a day as SARS caused over all.

SARS or SARS-CoV symptoms become apparent fairly quickly (1-3 days) it is very infectious il Kills. Tweak the genetic mix a bit and you get SARS-CoV2 or Coronavirus which is Not as infections or lethal but it hides and spreads
SARS-CoV Symptoms 1-3 days, R0 = 3.5 & Mortality = 10% (without ITU intervation)
SARS-CoV-2 Symptoms 2-7 days, R0 = 2.5 Mortality = 3% (without ITU intervation)
Only Tawain learnt the lesson: Don't trust China.
They stopped all flights to infected places and locked down anyone who had travelled for 2 weeks previously for 2 weeks.
Sadly they have now imported cases from the US but are doing the same trick now so will tie everything down fairly quickly.

Why is there certainly something more sinister going on? I suppose there could be, but I don't get why some people are so sure there is. It's bad enough as it is!
