COVID-19 — Coronavirus

One would hope a second or third wave would be far less catastrophic but we can't be sure of that. Personally, I think even when restrictions are lifted and it's deemed "safe" to go down the pub/go out for a meal/go to a football match or gig/fly to another country, etc, the worse thing that could happen is that pretty much everybody does it straight away. I, for one, will be wary of going down the pub and might hold off for a couple of weeks at least.
Totally agree, pub, plane, airport, concert, football crowd, public transport....not for me for a while.

I'm sure this is all true Karen and we've posted about it - albeit in much less detail - before.

But the above is very different from a blanket "anyone over 75 is not going to hospital,". Which is diabolical if true.
He said anyone over the age of 75 diagnosed with COVID19 who live in a care home, not everyone who live their own homes

Does anyone know whether the game changing test which shows if people have had the disease even exists ? People talk about in press conferences as important but is it out there now and available ?

it’s like everything they say.
Further off than they bullshit.
Like the vaccine. Whatever politicians say the people who really know say it’s 12-18 months away.

Just a general thought .... in a few weeks/month when hopefully by then the curve is on the way down and death rates drop ...
what happens when everything ‘goes back to normal’ and flights resume and some people carrying the virus come over and infect a few people again ... would we back to where we are now ? Or is the hope majority of country would be immune to it or perhaps a vaccine would be available

Basically it’s just going to be a case of trying to contain it until a vaccine is available by varying methods. Currently in the ‘lock down’ phase to try and ‘flatten the curve’.

Once we get to the bottom of the curve then I assume some measures will be relaxed, cases will pick up again but hopefully not to the same extent as we’re seeing now.

Then monitoring amount of cases into hospitals and ICU to decide whether more extreme measures need to be put in place again.

Repeat until vaccine available.

Could call it a very managed ‘herd immunity’ approach, especially if its upto 18 months until vaccine available.

I don’t think I will live ‘normally’ until either I’ve had it and there’s confidence that that gives immunity, or I’ve been vaccinated. When the strict lockdown is lifted and we’re asked to maintain social distancing but with more freedom of movement, people will suddenly start thinking it’s safe but it isn’t.

Yes it dies exist. Its production is being delayed by large chunks of production capacity being contaminated with actual virus.

Imagine the outrage when they say to those taking the test: "You don't have antibodies but you now do have the virus!"

Sadly, this is true.
Even those that are successfully treated may be in for a a hard time, as the Fibrosis of the lungs that this dreadful illness will leave behind in it's wake will be a curse on society for the next 25 years.
This is what i worry about,my lungs don't feel anywhere near recovered and i am still coughing to the point of throwing up at night,it is 4 weeks now, maybe i am hoping for too much,my lungs were perfect before and if i am struggling then i feel very sorry for people who had pre-exsisting problems with theirs
