The worldwide death total has roughly doubled in each of the last three weeks.

12/03 - 19/03 5k to 10k
19/03 - 25/03 10k to 20k
25/03 - 31/03 20k to 40k

Horrific if that trend continues for even another 2-3 weeks.

Expect a hell of a lot more.

575,000 died of swine flu worldwide in 2009 and 2010. Even that figure would only be early June by the time we surpass it. By the end of the year, who knows where we’ll stand...

The whole world didn’t shut down for swine flu. Imagine if everyone just carried on? It would have wiped out a billion.

I also noted that the BBC at 3pm described the 563 deaths as "those dying in hospital".
I think the ONS are reporting the other Coronavirus deaths (eg at Nursing homes) but a bit delayed, either days or weeks - I can't quite remember. It had been tracking at 25% of the daily hospital deaths figure up to that point, so in theory an additional 140 people as at 3pm.

convinced my dad to phone his gp, he has sore throat cough no smell or taste, and is fatigued. They have given him anti biotics and said it doesn’t sound like the virus. To me it absolutely does and I spoke to him on the phone and he doesn’t sound his normal self, sounds drained and down and he’s never like that! Can you have those symptoms, and if you don’t have a blazing fever it’s not corona? I don’t understand what anti biotics will do?!
The main symptoms are still cough and high temperature although there are others ,the first two are the main ones that fit the criteria, the virus caused viral pneumonia,a sticky substance that blocks the airwaves, having it opens you right up for bacterial pneumonia, they seem to have relaxed the rules on not giving out routine antibiotics for now,i had some iv and two different tablets,it is better to prevent bacterial pneumonia setting in as then you are a bigger drain on the nhs then

Not everyone has a fever. I think it’s 80-something percent that do. Maybe 1 in 7 cases don’t, something like that. Whilst it’s the most common symptom, it’s not true that you have to have a fever to have COVID-19 I don’t think.

Also, I vaguely remember reading that of the confirmed positive cases on the covid 19 symptom tracker app, around 60% recorded a loss of taste and smell.

Something baffling me. The government keeps on saying everyone stay home, yet flights carrying people from infected areas are still coming into the country and the passengers just allowed in with no checks. This surely just makes a mockery of the policy?
They were telling everyone to stay at home when they were having press conferences with 50+ people in one room, and kept pubs open knowing people would go in. They told us not to go and see our Mam’s on Mother’s Day but Bo Jo said he’d be going to see his. Italy went into Lockdown but flights were still coming from Italy into Britain three days after their lockdown and flights are still coming in now from around the world. They’ve said they’ll test more but aren’t doing anything like other countries, they’ve said there is something wrong with the test kits yet from elsewhere it’s said there hasn’t been anything wrong with them. They brought out help for workers but forgot about the self employed for a week. They said they wouldn’t shut down large gatherings at first so governing bodies UEFA, the Premier League and the IRFB closed down sporting events off their own back.

Cummings and his minions: Boris, Hancock and the medical expert who does the adverts; have all contracted it.

They’ve been very inconsistent throughout the whole process.

Has that been on purpose though?

The loss of sense of smell is absolutely an indicator. Can’t believe his GP wouldn’t know that. On a positive note some doctor on Newsnight said there is some evidence building that the people who lose their sense of smell might tend to get a milder case overall. So fingers crossed this is the case for your dad.

Telegraph website:
The new stats also showed that forty per cent of all coronavirus deaths so far have occurred in London, with 18 per cent in the South East, and 15 per cent in the West Midlands. While nearly three quarters of UK deaths involved those aged 75 and over, with just one death involving a person under the age of 45.

That %age of deaths is a new breakdown to me (doesn't include today's figures).

That is wrong, there are some under 45 including a 19yr old and a 13 yr old
