You can have a billion tests available but if they’re in the wrong places, you haven’t really got them. Not only that, but if it’s taking over 10 days to report results, what’s the point?
Don't disagree, but we don't have a billion tests, and we did, they'd more than likely be available to anyone, the problem is that capacity has pretty much been reached, and I assume it's capacity in labs, not the number of testing kits.

It's easy to be critical, but most things fail when they reach capacity, the question is why have we suddenly reached capacity, it might be solely because capacity wasn't high enough, but it could also be because people are requesting a test for just the first "sniffle" they get every early autumn. I don't know the answer either, but they need to grow capacity quickly either way, there'll be a lot more with "sniffles" in the coming months.

I've been out for a long walk in the sunshine today, and now I'm home reading bluemoon my nose is running, should I try and book a test ? No is the obvious answer.

I don‘t disagree but what you‘re saying isn’t exactly complex so I get more confused as to why does this government seem to get caught out by this stuff? Perhaps it’s the promise of ‘world class’ everything which just makes it all the more disappointing.
From what I’ve heard, many of the lab staff were from academia and have now gone back, as it’s September. Surely for a government organising the economy, Brexit, foreign affairs and this virus, they can’t have not been aware that university staff will be going back in September, can they?

I have no idea, but I generally avoid "from what I've heard" as it more often than not comes from social media, which is about as accurate as government "world class" comments.

I generally avoid making assumptions about people I’ve never met and I don’t do social media, save for this forum.
And, I only ’heard’ because I actually work in it.

It was said on Radio5Live today - there were also some graduates who were going on to jobs they have found - in fact in recognition of the trouble they are in they announced they were launching a recruitment drive for labs yesterday. Presumably the start of the academic year being in September was news to Lord Bethell the head of testing and Matt Hancock donor?

People often say "from what I have heard" or "seen" or "read" as a shorthand introduction

I wasn't being personal, apologies if you thought I was "making assumptions", it was a general comment.

Many people say "I heard" or "I read" and they are referring to social media, which like you I generally avoid, pretty much the only tweets I have ever read are posted on this forum.

Couple of quick questions if anyone has an insight?
Do we give an age breakdown of those in ICU and on ventilators?
What's the average length of time it takes for someone to be ill then end up in ICU?
Are people still contagious whilst they are on ventilators?

Thanks in advance

According to worldometer, 156 deaths today in Spain.

Really hope we don't get near the spring levels with these sort of numbers but I fear about how quickly they're beginning to grow.

Really helpful, don't let him near the team

The guitarist added: "I choose not to wear one and if I get the virus it's on me, it's not on anyone else. If every other c**** wearing a mask I'm not going to catch it off them, and if I've got it then they're not going to catch it off me. I think it's a p***take. There's no need for it

As long as he pays private rather than using the NHS.

Brown I could understand being a dick, mistakenly thought this particular Gallagher had some sort of intelligence.

Last time covid deaths were at their peak I only knew of people who had died through the media who were residents of nursing homes or in hospital. A friend of mine worked in a nursing home of 103 patients, 47 got positively tested for covid and 47 died. Also a friend lost his 109 year old Grandmother to covid.

In this current spread a neighbour of my friend caught it and survived, his wife was`nt as lucky.

My sons friend and his wife have proved positive and are unwell but not in hospital. My Granddaughter`s nursery have also been told that one of the toddlers they look after have also been tested positive.

Are other people starting to find this is hitting near to home or is it just a coincidence.

I still know of nobody who currently has had it or has it.
i work in the service industry so am in up to 5 houses a day and the conversation with customers, obviously, always tUrns to Covid. I reckon in 200+ houses ive spoke to maybe 5 people who know of somebody who has had it. 0 who have died from it though.

in my circle of friends again non have had or know anyone that has had.

The wifes a primary teacher and they are at 90% attendance.

its a weird one eh?

Thanks I know this area has quite a lot of cases hopefully it is isolated as much as possible.

Friend of mine has seen their primary school year closed for past week due to a positive test. I know our own school has had multiple children off sick but all negative tests so far.

Key workers finding it difficult to get access to tests but professional footballers get tested regulary.

What a stupid way to run society and the ecomony.

Anyone can get a test of your willing to pay privately. It's not the footballers fault that the government can't arrange a piss up in a brewery. You'll be comparing what they earn to nurses next.
