Releasing us to tier 2 would be catastrophic.

Is he off his nut?

This is yet another reason why these tiers have to go. They drive political division and envy of those given lower levels for reasons open to argument. And they ensure that the rules will be broken by many in the upper ones who likely would not do this if they perceived this system to be fair and equitable and the pain shared by all.

Lockdown works better as it has nowhere to run off and take the virus with you to and it is at least an all in it together set up that nobody can spin politically as favouring parties or regions or anything

They can, they just need to re-arrange terms accordingly, if the will was there, this would have already have happened, kids don't need 6-7 weeks in summer, or 2 weeks at easter.
the will is there from the teaching side, but we need to hear a much more emollient tone from the government, ie. we won't hammer schools that don't ensure pupils make outstanding progress in a pandemic.

Finally braved public transport to go and see my mum. 1st time in 9 months. Still some maskless knobs riding the trams and even when a Metolink employee pulled them up on one of the trams I was on they just seemed to shrug him off and nothing further was done. Couldn't hear what was actually said because I had my in ear phones on listening to music at the time.

Guess this is directed at all posters. If you've had Covid, what symptoms did you have? Me and my missus are feeling very run down at the moment. Feels cold-like, but a lot of pressure in our heads too. Bit sinus-ey. Knackered and weak. I know it can share a lot in common with just typical mild flu stuff, so im a bit uncertain now ahead of Christmas. Was planning to see my parents in their garden on xmas day but I'm worried ive got a very, very mild version!
Severe headache, cough, brain fog (couldn't answer simple questions on Pop Master), loss of appetite, taste altered, can of coke tasted like cigarette ash and just like you knackered and weak. On the first day I was ill also had the shivers, day 2 onwards these didn't reappear. You have enough similar symptoms to have it. Also, not to alarm you too much some people that have symptoms deteriorate after 7/8 days but these are mainly older folk who have underlying conditions, the virus which is in the throat causing the cough moves into, and attacks the lungs. Testing is a must, good luck.

Worried I might need to take a test now too ;)
Only messing, hope you’re feeling better now? And good luck to @twosips too, of course.

Cheers, was about 8 weeks ago and nearly 100% now, just a bit tired a bit earlier at the end of the day. Pop master is Champions League at the moment and I still can't answer any of those questions!

No, but vague, inconsistent messaging and senior government figures flagrantly breaking the rules have scarcely helped matters either.
100%,which was clearly covered in my first comment you replied to,by the use of the words inept and contradictory.

I'd go as far as to say Cummings, and the subsequent lack of sanctioning by our weak PM,was the pivotal moment in the early days of this pandemic. It provided the perfect excuse for every wanker who sought one.

It's funny, were watching City v Saints, Pep was stood there with his finger in his mouth after shaking hands with several people.

I’m sure I speak for everyone on here when I say you have been a rock throughout this. I think the scientists are being muzzled and a proper lockdown is the only way to address it. That means schools closing. Sadly the government seem to be keen to do half measures, prolonging the agony.

I know he’s not especially popular with some, and this may be better suited to the political thread, but found this article by Tony Blair on how we should go about our vaccination programme quite interesting.

An interesting view. Certainly worth considering.

Andy Burnham just said on BBC News he hopes GM will be in tier 2. Not a chance. He too seems to be watching days old data if he says -as he just did - GM only risen by 1% this week so should be released. Last week maybe so.

In the past seven days the weekly pop rises in GM say otherwise.

Yes Wigan has done very well and gone down 24 but the overall trend is only one way. But Manchester up 18, Oldham up 16, Salford up 34, Stockport up 44, Tameside up 22 and Trafford up 71 tells you all you need to know.

Those are much worse than they were when the government decided tier 3 not tier 2. I agree that was an arguable call but you certainly could not do it now given the above upward curves. Let alone the 17% level of the mutant strain the BBC were also just now telling us they were 'given access to today' (though it was easy to read on here or Twitter yesterday morning so not sure why it needed them to get access to it as if it were somehow top secret).

As I have been posting all day this over reliance on days old data is leading people to make bad decisions.

We need a proper lockdown now let alone on Boxing Day and we absolutely cannot go down a tier given the rise of this new strain in the NW. That would be catastrophic.

They just need to dump these tiers and stop the ability to transfer the virus from tier to tier by the same rules for everybody and so no way to cheat the system.

Just creating yet more levels and complexity is ridiculous. If it leaves anywhere for people to go to get round the rules and spread the virus that is what it will do.
I think tiers are the way it’s going to go. And can’t see anything changing before Boxing Day.
