With the match tonight will just do a basic summary of GM today as I doubt many read the full data anyway.

793 cases - down from 813. 33% of NW total today. Lowest in weeks.

1 Manchester 158 cases (down from 203) Total 34, 176. Weekly 1057. Pop Score 6182. Weekly Pop up 5 to 191

2 Salford 94 cases (up from 86) Total 14, 633. Weekly 478. Pop score 5653. Weekly Pop up 13 to 184

3 Stockport 88 (up from 70) Total 11, 648. Weekly 444, Pop score 3970, Weekly Pop up 19 to 152. Big rise.

4 Wigan 77 (down from 98) Total 18, 288, Weekly 494. {Pop score 5564. Weekly Pop down 5 to 150. Wigan has better Pop score than Stockport would have been laughable 6 weeks ago. But not six months ago when they did.

5 Oldham 72 (up from 47) Total 16, 101. Weekly 461. Pop score 6791. Weekly Pop up 7 to 195.

6 Rochdale 72 (down from 77) Total 14, 074. Weekly 438. Pop score 6328. Weekly Pop up stays at 197

7 Trafford 63 (down from 72) Total 9628, Weekly 426. Pop score 4056.Weekly Pop up 11 to 179.

8 Bolton 62 (up from 54) Total 16, 480. Weekly 436. Pop score 5731. Weekly Pop up 5 to 151. Like Wigan now has better weekly Pop than Stockport showing how Stockport is in a spot of trouble right now.

9 Bury 58 (down from 68) Total 10, 990. Weekly 389. Pop score 5754. Weekly Pop down 1 to 203.

10 Tameside 49 (up from 38) Total 11, 221. Weekly 294. Pop score 4954. Weekly Pop up 4 to 130. In a week up from 87 to 130 and still lowest in GM shows that GM is on the rise.

Obviously can’t close supermarkets, but the spread is a lot more of a problem in supermarkets that live sport. That said I’ve been to a supermarket twice since February, don’t miss it,but I’d miss a bit of sport going on to take the mind off things.
Only because there has been barely any spectators at live sport so there’s no data to analyse.

the only “evidence” of supermarket spread is the story the other week that 1 in 4 covid positive ppl had been to a supermarket in the 7 days prior to testing positive. I bet at least 1 in 4 of the entire population visit a supermarket at least once every 7 days. Hence there is no real link to supermarkets and spread. Furthermore, on the ground conversations with staff at various supermarkets has revealed barely any issue with staff testing positive to show any “outbreak” traced to a supermarket.

Clearly if they allowed significant numbers back into live sport there would be spread (Cheltenham, atletico v bin dippers)

So, it seems the new variant is far more widely spread than just the SE, which in itself has been kicking about since September.

Perhaps, as a sliver of positivity, it's not going to balloon in the North as it was already kicking about? Or has sequencing disproved that?

Does anyone have that retort fir the Danmask trials (yes some hardened flat earthers are still arguing mask wearing is akin to muzzles & face nappies). The Danish study is pulled up as ‘evidence’ but was soon after unpicked.

Read it on here but can’t quite find the source.

Thanks.

Could do with that optimism back mind...was strong post Pfizer et al.

Need a strong year the lot of us.

Wasn't that the one where they gave 50% masks and the other half went without? Rather defeats the purpose for the 50% wearing them if the other half don't, the whole point is everyone wears them to reduce transmission.

Very depressing to see how many morons on social media are spreading the meme saying ‘remember, the Goverment can’t stop you or anyone hugging your loved ones and spending Christmas together’ and getting plenty of likes for it.

death toll is going to be huge in a few weeks is my guess. I prey I’m wrong.

To be honest, I don't really know what this means or how to interpret it. It *sounds* like potentially good news but I could be completely wrong. Clutching at straws for any light I can find at this stage.

People are very quick to attack the Govt, and while they have been incredibly inept and contradictory, the real problem has always been the fucking morons.

Study was good and well run.

Much comment on it very misleading.

Showed masks likely but not certain to give benefit to wearers. Benefit to *others* (the main object of eating a mask is to protect other people) not tested.

We dont know , i think the numbers were scaring the gov and they wanted them to be less , who knows

In other news

How was this allowed to happen ?

The Chilean army announced that 36 people linked with the General Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme base on the planet's southern pole had tested positive for COVID-19.

The base is in the far western reaches of Antarctica, close to the southern tip of South America.
Its the pengiuns up to no good

It means that one of the mutations in this new variant does not allow it to escape antibodies. Good news for vaccine effectiveness, but not definitive asv they haven't tested the full variant.

Government ineptitude aside, has anyone noticed that most of those shouting the loudest about their freedoms being suppressed due to all these restrictions were never big human rights advocates before all this started? I don’t see the likes of Amnesty and HRW railing too much against any measures put in place by our or any other government, no matter how strict, which tells us that as much as we might not like it this is something that needs to be taken seriously, yet all of a sudden we’ve got a fucking bunch of right slapped arse twats who have popped up out of nowhere and would have previously scoffed at anyone who dared campaign for human rights.

No,but a refusal to take personal responsibility and think for ones self cannot be excused. We shouldnt have to be spoon fed continually.
That's what decades of zero responsibility from those in power gets you, it creates a mind set and makes other people think "why should I?".

If ever there were a time to act it would be now.

As things stand, with a new variant we may not be able to control at all, we're planning to allow Boxing day sales to go ahead and spread it even faster.

But what do experts know?
