Like I said.

The WHO is mixing poor, incomplete statistics with the most accurate, largest sample size, highest level of tested population. I’m not saying conglomeration of all data is a bad thing, only that one needs to understand what the numbers say and mean are not always the same thing.
Do you accept that in South Korea, there’s 100 or so recovered, 42 dead and 6,000 or so positive but neither recovered nor dead (therefore we can’t yet extrapolate their results as they could yet die or recover)?

18 confirmed cases in manchester.

Is it time to close schools and collages and the universities for a fortnight just as a precaution?

I think the Easter holidays are 3-20 April for most so tagging a few weeks on to that beforehand would make sense. Logistically I am not sure who it would work though. That is a lot of childcare. They certainly need to stop the large congregations of people first so the sporting events will be one of the first to be done. I think knowing this country we will wait and see on schools.

As I work for a college, it would affect me and we have a fair few service and curriculim staff with kids who have said that they would need to be off if the schools closed.

Government advise that 3,000,000 volunteers will be drafted in to assist in hospital fight against coronavirus

Unfortunately the Conservatives have failed to take into account that before being allowed to work or volunteer in a hospital you need to to have a criminal records check (DBS) costing £90 and taking up to 14 days..... again demonstrating that they know nothing .... (yet again)

You asked, I answered. Take the results for what they’re worth.CDC and WHO are including some poor stats, which you clearly see for yourself...but you can hide behind them if you so choose.

I’ll take the largest sample size and results, as opposed to the places where we only really know about the 20%!
Do you *seriously* suggest that national governments would be implementing such incredibly damaging draconian measures (such as in China and northern Italy) were this to all be nothing much more than flu? The pressures to sit back and carry on as normal, hoping for the best, are simply enormous - in terms of jobs, trade, the economy, peoples' way of life, freedom - pretty much everything. And yet draconian measures ARE being taken, because these governments, advised by their scientists, can see the severity of the crisis.

The world has lost its collective fucking mind over a strain of the flu that has been shown to be nowhere near others in terms of its mortality rates yet here we are effectively locking the globe and life down over it?

Fucking ridiculous.

The point is, it is more contagious and will ultimately kill more people. On top of that it there is no vaccine and they are hoping it doesn't mutate into anything worse. The comparison re seasonal flu is pretty irrelevant, with all due respect

17000 every single year die of the flu in this country and not a peep nor murmer so you can only guess the numbers worldwide yet here we are with 24 hour rolling new coverage because an 83 year old has died and we have several new cases out of a population of nearly 70 million.
