With my asthma if I get flu I could get pneumonia but more likely will just have more attacks

If I get this I do get pneumonia and have 30% chance of surviving

I think this is more or a worry than any cold or flu for me and many others
I asthmatic too mate, just cancelled our 27 night cruise from Dubai to Barcelona, should be leaving in 2 weeks, sick as a parrot :(

And yet people who go out and buy soap/sanitiser and stay in are labelled as ‘selfish’ and paranoid.

The ones doing nothing and carrying on as normal are the selfish ones.
We have a mixed up world where the prudent are castigated over the unwise.

No one is critcising people buying hygiene products and being prepared.

People are having a go at hoarders buying ridiculously stupid amounts of stuff leaving others who either cannot afford to do the same or haven't the capacity carry or store such left with none to buy in reasonable quantities.

Making sure I take my vitamins and get fitter through waking and swimming and washing hands like mad.

Eating lots of fruit and veg and cutting down on alcohol. Just want to be as strong as possible for it.

It is absolutely what causes the common cold to the flu which constantly mutates itself, hence why we have never found a cure for it and probably never will.

Others are SARS, MERS which where both forms of coronavirus.

Yeah and if you read you’ll see why this is much worse than MERS or SARS as it’s far more infectious.

Killing 1-3.4% of 50m in the UK is more deadly than killing 10-20% of 10,000.

Just because it is a coronavirus does not mean that it will behave like the cold as far as vaccines etc are concerned it is a different type of coronavirus. Our flu vaccines are imperfect but help.
Personally I am bloody glad it is not as bad as SARS and MERS it is quite bad enough.
If you want to read about the research this is an interesting article.

Do you *seriously* suggest that national governments would be implementing such incredibly damaging draconian measures (such as in China and northern Italy) were this to all be nothing much more than flu? The pressures to sit back and carry on as normal, hoping for the best, are simply enormous - in terms of jobs, trade, the economy, peoples' way of life, freedom - pretty much everything. And yet draconian measures ARE being taken, because these governments, advised by their scientists, can see the severity of the crisis.
I think human nature is to do something, and with social media and global coverage of events, that “something” can seem like an overreaction.

Of course, we won’t know what Coronavirus will have been until it’s blown over, but while we are undergoing its effects, national governments have to be seen to be doing...even when it is useless nonsense, such as here in the States. The world is gearing up for the pandemic to end all pandemics...and you won’t know which one it is until your neck deep in it. By now, we are pretty certain THIS is not it, but where there have been flare ups, those govts have to act. In the States, we have states of emergency in Washington state, California and New York, because of a cluster in a nursing home in WA, and some community spread in CA & NY. Of course, that means that the President has to call the Governor of WA names and he is keeping a cruise ship offshore, SO THE STATS DON’T INCREASE IN THE US! Fucking moron!
